🌟 Team Member Spotlight 🌟

At Fresh Start Recovery Center, we are proud of the heart, dedication, and lived experience our team brings every day. Our staff doesn’t just talk about recovery—they live it.

This week we’re highlighting Recovery Associate Josh Crider, who shares his story in his own words:

“My name is Joshua Crider. I’m from Prestonsburg, Kentucky, and I am living proof that if you truly want to change your life, nothing can stop you except yourself. Today, I am proud of who I am, where I’ve been, and where I am now.

For many years, my life was a blur of chasing the next fix, making choices I deeply regret, and ultimately losing myself. Addiction held me captive for what felt like an eternity. I spent years in prison, separated from everything and everyone I loved, watching my life slip away. If I got what I wanted, I didn’t care what happened or who I hurt. I was consumed by selfishness. I lost hope, I lost trust, and most days I felt completely lost, forgetting who I was and who I was meant to be.

But somewhere along the way, something changed. Maybe it was hitting rock bottom one too many times—constantly on the run, looking for a ride, with no money, nothing to eat, and sometimes nowhere to sleep. I finally decided to start a new journey, one step at a time. As I committed myself to changing my life, I realized that even my worst choices and hardest experiences helped shape the man I am today. If I hadn’t walked through those struggles, I wouldn’t have become the person I am now.

Today, I’m grateful to work at Fresh Start Recovery Center. We truly are one big family, and it’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that is making a positive difference in the lives of others and in our community.”

Josh’s story is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible and that our past does not define our future. Every day, he uses his experience to encourage, support, and inspire the men we serve.

Thank you, Josh, for your honesty, your compassion, and your commitment to helping others find hope.

In active addiction, many of us didn’t believe we could get even one day clean. The thought of living without drugs seemed impossible.

At Fresh Start Recovery Center, we focus on a simple but powerful principle: Just for Today. We don’t have to stay clean forever—we just have to stay clean today. As we continue putting one clean day in front of another, those days begin to add up.

Not only do we start stacking clean time, but the quality of our lives begins to improve. Relationships heal, hope returns, and we discover a new way to live.

Our guys are learning that a day clean is a day won, and we couldn’t be more proud of the hard work they’re putting in every single day.

Help us show these men some love and encouragement for their hard-earned clean time! ❤️

If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, we’re here to help.

The disease of addiction wants us to isolate. It knows it has us right where it wants us when we cut ourselves off from others. Many of us believed we were the only people in the world feeling the way we felt. We had lost meaningful friendships, strained family relationships, and felt completely alone in our struggles.

In recovery, we discover that we are not alone after all. We meet people who think like us, feel like us, and have experienced the same battles we have. Through identification and shared experience, we find something we have been searching for all along—a sense of belonging. We begin to build genuine connections, develop healthy relationships, and become part of a community that understands us.

Recovery teaches us that we never have to face life by ourselves again. Together, we find hope, support, and a new way to live.

Are you feeling alone? We can help. Call 606-459-5171. Everyone deserves a Fresh Start! 💚🌳

Freedom From Active Addiction

Many of us believed we would die in active addiction. Even worse, we had accepted it as our reality. We felt trapped, hopeless, and convinced there was no way out.

Recovery offers many gifts—hope, purpose, healing, relationships, and a new way of life—but it makes one promise above all others: freedom from active addiction. We never have to use drugs again, even when life gets difficult. Through recovery, we learn that no situation, feeling, or circumstance has the power to make us use.

That freedom is available to anyone willing to reach for it.

We Don’t Have to Quit Using for a Lifetime, Just for Today

The idea of never using drugs again can feel overwhelming. In active addiction, many of us didn’t think we could stop at all—let alone stay clean forever.

Recovery teaches us a simple principle: we only have to stay clean today.

How do we get through one day clean? We use the tools of recovery:
• Go to a meeting
• Share honestly about our feelings
• Call our sponsor or support network
• Read recovery literature
• Be of service to others
• Pray and seek guidance

When we practice these things, something amazing happens. We look up and realize we haven’t thought about using in hours. That small victory gives us the hope and courage to make it through the rest of the day clean.

One day at a time, those days begin to add up into a new way of life.

“My thoughts will be on my new associations, people who are not using and who have found a new way of life.”

Simply not using drugs isn’t enough. Recovery requires change. We must change the people, places, and things that kept us trapped in addiction.

Most of us have a herd mentality—we tend to become like the people we spend our time with. If I surround myself with people who use drugs, chances are I’ll eventually do the same. But if I surround myself with people who are working on themselves, seeking recovery, and living by spiritual principles, chances are I’ll begin to grow in that direction as well.

So where do we find these people? They usually aren’t in the places we used to frequent. We have to look elsewhere. Recovery meetings are often a great place to start. Not everyone there may be seeking a new way of life, but the ones who are will stand out. They carry a message of hope, accountability, and change.

The people we associate with can either pull us backward or help us move forward. Choose wisely.

Do you need new associations and a new way to live? Let us help guide you on your journey.

In active addiction, many of us were physically present but emotionally absent. We may have been in the room, but our minds, hearts, and priorities were somewhere else. Addiction robbed us of the ability to truly show up for our children. We missed moments we can never get back and often carried guilt, shame, and regret because of it.

A program of recovery teaches us that recovery is a process of becoming responsible and learning how to live life on life’s terms. As we stay clean and work the principles of recovery, we begin to show up differently. We learn honesty, accountability, patience, and unconditional love. We become dependable. We become available. Most importantly, we become present.

Recovery doesn’t make us perfect fathers, but it gives us the opportunity to be the fathers our children deserve. We learn that making amends isn’t just something we say—it’s something we live. Every ride to school, every ballgame, every bedtime conversation, every promise kept becomes a living amends.

Today, our children don’t need perfection. They need consistency. They need to know we’re there. They need to see that people can change and that recovery is possible.

One of the greatest gifts recovery gives us is the chance to break the cycle and leave our children with something better than what addiction left us.

Just for today, I will be present. Just for today, I will be grateful. Just for today, I will be the father my recovery allows me to be.

Do you want to become the father your children deserve? Let us help. Call 606-459-5171. Everyone deserves a Fresh Start!

In active addiction, we created a great deal of chaos and caused harm to ourselves and those around us. Long after the drugs are gone, we can still be haunted by the shame, guilt, regret, and pressure that come from our past actions. Too often, we remain trapped by what was, unable to fully embrace what could be.

In recovery, we learn to face our past honestly. We look at it for what it truly was—not to live there, but to learn from it. Through the recovery process, we work through the pain, make amends where possible, and begin to let go of the burdens we’ve carried for so long. As we release the past, we become free to live in the present. We no longer have to be defined by our mistakes; instead, we can enjoy today for the gift that it is.

Do you want to be free from your past? Let us help.

In active addiction, many of us didn’t know there was a way out. If we were fortunate enough to be shown a new path, we were often terrified to take that first step—no matter how much pain, chaos, and suffering we were living in.

Recovery gives us something we may not have had in a very long time: hope. Hope gives us the courage to take that first step toward a new way of life. What we often discover is that taking that first step isn’t nearly as frightening as we imagined. In fact, once we begin the journey, each step becomes a little easier than the last.

You don’t have to see the whole staircase—just take the first step.

Are you ready to take that first step? Let us walk alongside you.

In active addiction, we felt like we had to use drugs at all costs. We would go to any lengths to find and use more drugs. The truth is, it’s rarely the last drug we use that causes our problems—it’s the first one we put into our bodies.

In recovery, once we become completely abstinent, we are given something many of us have never truly had before: a choice. No matter what happens—no matter who leaves us, who hurts us, or who dies—we no longer have to use drugs. We can face life on life’s terms without picking up.

Knowing that we have a choice brings a freedom we never knew in active addiction. It allows us to live with hope, purpose, and peace of mind.

Do you want to stop using drugs, lose the desire to use, and find a new way to live?
