Sometimes the smallest memories leave the biggest imprint on our hearts. A favorite recipe, a familiar laugh, a song on the radio, or a story passed down through generations can keep the memory of a loved one alive for years to come.

What is one memory that always makes you smile when you think of someone special?

Jim Marshall

James “Jim” B Marshall, a man whose strength, humor, and love shaped the lives of everyone around him passed away peacefully on September 27th, 2025 at the age 77.

Jim was born to Dorothy and James Marshall on January 24, 1948 in Price, Utah. He lived a life of service, sacrifice, and devotion. He served bravely in the Vietnam War and then returned home where he met his wife, Sherrie. He spent decades working in the coal mines. Together they raised their three children in Sunnyside, Utah. Eventually he retired and moved to Florida to enjoy the warm sun.

Though he worked hard, he also knew how to enjoy life. Jim enjoyed watching football, the occasional trip to the casino, and spending time with his family. And if you ever asked him who held the most special place in his heart, he might just tell you it was his beloved dog, Patches, who never left his side and gave him unconditional love.

He has now been reunited in heaven with his parents, sister June Prettyman, brother Art (Mercedes) Marshall and his son Jeff. While we miss him deeply, we find comfort knowing he is surrounded by loved ones once again. He leaves behind his loving wife Sherrie Marshall, his daughter Sandy (Aaron) Churchman, son Jimmy (Dawn) Marshall, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of strength and love.

Graveside Service, Monday, June 8, 2026, 11:00 a.m., Price City Cemetery. Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Castle Valley Funerals & Cremations where family and friends are always welcome and may share memories online at www.castlevalleyfunerals.com.

Charles Hoyt

Charles “Chuck” Leslie Hoyt was born on March 24, 1947 in San Diego, California to Ruth Virginia Kollberg Hoyt and Leslie Duane Hoyt. He passed away on May 20, 2026 at the age of 79.

He married Kathryn Bryner in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 21, 1970.

When Chuck was five, his mother was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized. This changed the course of his life and he had a firm testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ for the rest of his life. His steady example and willingness to serve blessed the lives of many. While he was still 5, his family moved from San Diego to the Phoenix, Arizona area where they lived for 6 years. When Chuck’s parents divorced, he and his sisters, Judy and Carol, lived with relatives in Ludington, Michigan for a year while their mom remained in Arizona to take care of business.. When he was 16, his mother met and married Walter Lewis Garland. While in Michigan, Chuck worked on the ferry that crossed Lake Michigan to and from Wisconsin. He graduated from Ludington High School in 1965 and afterwards attended school at Sam’s Technical Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana. After a year, he served in the Eastern Atlantic States Mission for 2 years, mainly in Washington D.C. His mission was the place where most of his gospel knowledge was gained, as he grew up in an area that was too far from the nearest church building to be able to attend with any regularity.

After his mission, he attended Utah State University for one year and then transferred to Brigham Young University, where he met Kathy. He graduated in 1973 with a B.S. Degree in Business Management-Finance. He remained a devout BYU football fan for the rest of his life. His work took him from California to Minnesota and then to Pennsylvania. He severed his employment in Pennsylvania and headed to Price, Utah where he worked in the coal mines for 32 years, 5 years underground and 27 years on the surface doing maintenance work and electrical repairs. He worked the graveyard shift for most of those years. In 1984, he was on one of the first teams to attempt a rescue during the Wilberg mine fire. He knew all who perished, and the tragedy affected him deeply.

During his retirement years, he and Kathy enjoyed working at the Bishop’s Storehouse each week as well as going to their shift at the Manti temple. Chuck was known for his chocolate chip cookies and Dutch oven dinners which we all enjoyed during camping trips to Moon Lake. He liked gardening, woodworking, playing pinochle, and trips to Costco.

He is survived by his loving wife Kathy; his children, Shauna (Aaron) Dayley, Scott (Nancy) Hoyt, Julie (Jeremy) Montgomery; daughter-in-law Jami Hoyt; 14 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Virginia Kollberg and Leslie Duane Hoyt; his stepfather, Walter Lewis Garland; his sisters, Judy Loveall and Carol Krueskamp; and his son, Mark Hoyt.

Clark J Riches

Clark J Riches, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend, passed away on May 12th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on April 3, 1933, in Spanish Fork, Utah, and grew up in Hiawatha (Carbon County). After completing his military service, he moved to Green River, Utah, where he and his beloved wife raised their family and established his legacy of love for family, friendships, hard work, and service.

On April 29, 1955, Clark married Carol Joan Smodey in the Salt Lake Temple, where they were sealed for time and eternity. Together, they built a life centered on family, commitment, perseverance, and love. Clark carried these values throughout his life and passed them on to future generations.

Clark was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout his life. His faith consistently guided his compassion, humility, and patience toward others.

Clark was a proud Korean War veteran who served his country with honor. Upon returning home, he dedicated his life to helping others. Volunteering as a firefighter, EMT, scout leader, and as a Little League coach, Clark was recognized for his reliability, compassion, and willingness to support anyone in need.

In addition to his volunteer work, Clark served as postmaster for Green River, Thompson, and Cisco, Utah, from July 1963 to October 1992. He also spent nearly 30 years driving for Vetere’s, delivering melons throughout Utah. Furthermore, for over 50 years, he collected daily water samples from the Green River and San Rafael River for the United States Geological Survey.

Family was always at the heart of Clark’s life. He was the proud father of ten children. After losing his oldest daughter, Clark and Carol lovingly raised their two grandsons alongside their other children. His legacy lives on through 34 grandchildren and over 70 great-grandchildren, who saw him as a source of wisdom, strength, and steady support.

Clark loved spending time outdoors and traveling with his family. His enjoyment included camping, fishing, hunting, bowling, gardening, and going on many adventures and road trips. As a result, many of his family’s best memories were made around campfires, on the road, and in quiet moments filled with his laughter and stories.

He is survived by his sister, Aunt Pat; five sons, Bruce (Lorrie), Duane (Penney), Gary (Kayce), Sheldon (Mari), and Lance; four daughters, Linda (Greg), Chantel (Lloyd), Kitty (Kevin), and Doni (Alex); and the two grandsons he raised as his own, Range Hunt (Kassi) and Kaleb Hunt. Clark passed on his deep respect for life, faith, service, and patriotism to his family, now numbering over 120.

Clark was preceded in death by his father, William George; his mother, Edith Taylor Riches; his wife, Carol; his oldest daughter, Julie; his brothers, Dean and Glen Riches; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Leena.

Those who knew Clark remember him as a man of quiet determination, integrity, and love. His example of kindness, forgiveness, and stability will guide his family for generations.

Funeral service, Tuesday, May 26th, 2026, 11:00 a.m., Green River Ward meetinghouse, with a viewing from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Interment, Elgin Cemetery. Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Castle Valley Funerals & Cremations where family and friends are always welcome and may share memories online and watch the livestream of the service at www.castlevalleyfunerals.com.

Clark will be deeply missed and forever loved; until we meet again. We love you, Dad.
