Our August Woman of the month is Mika Salas!
Mika Salas was born and raised in Carbon County. She attended Sally Mauro Elementary, Helper Jr. High and Carbon High and had wonderful experiences in our local schools. After high school she headed to Logan and earned an Associate Degree in Drafting and a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Teacher Education. Later she received a math endorsement and then a Master Degree in Administration and Supervision. There were family members, teachers, principals, friends, friends' parents, and community members who went out of their way to help her along the way and are still doing so. Any success she has experienced is the direct result of the love and support from those closest to her.
She is most proud of her amazing family. She has been lucky enough to be married to Steve for 27 years and they have two amazing kids. Gracie, a kindergarten teacher at Wellington Elementary and Bode, a salesman for American Benefits Company in Springville. Three years ago they were blessed to add Ty Anderson as a son-in-law and cannot get enough of their grandson Crew who just turned one. She also needs to recognize her mom Lois and sister Carolyn because without them nothing would have been possible.
In an effort to pay it forward, she has dedicated the last 28 years of her career to education. She worked as math teacher, principal, and district office administrator before becoming the superintendent five years ago. She loves interacting with her former students and keeps every letter, card, email, and announcement they send her. She also loves and respects her colleagues and cannot imagine doing anything else. We truly have wonderful people working in our local schools and she wishes she could tell the stories of what happens behind the scenes to highlight the tremendous effort of our dedicated staff.
Mika would like to include all of the women in our community who are doing hard and brave things in this recognition because each of us has a story to tell. Shout out to all of you who are doing the right thing for the right reason no matter how difficult. You are appreciated!
Special things to Dr. Pressett and Stasha Pressett for sponsoring this month with a laser hair removal package! Desert Ridge Surgery
