August 27, 2026, the night sky has something pretty spectacular in store.
A total lunar eclipse—better known as a Blood Moon—happens when Earth moves between the Sun and Moon, casting its shadow across the Moon and turning it that eerie, gorgeous shade of red.
And yes… there’s actual science behind the red glow. The Moon isn't producing red light—Earth's atmosphere filters and bends sunlight toward the Moon, scattering much of the blue light and allowing more red and orange wavelengths through.
