👋 SLPs, before you start your next AAC device trial — have you considered these patient factors....?

🔹Onset: Acquired? Congenital?
🔹Prognosis: Stable? Improving? Degenerative?
🔹Intelligibility: Familiar Partners? Novel Partners?
🔹Cognition & Language skills: Strengths? Weaknesses? Current Strategies?
🔹Use patterns: Full-time user? Part-time user?
🔹Visual symbol comprehension : Concrete symbols?
🔹Mobility and interface : Environment? Access methods?
🔹Mood/resilience : Emotion changes? Motivation level? Support 🔹system?
🔹Features: What’s necessary?

Like Teresa says, there is no one-size-fits-all AAC device.

What other factors do you consider when trialing AAC? Let us know in the comments.

🌸 Meet Iris: she has Parkinson's disease, but she doesn't let that stop her from speaking her mind.

As she puts it:

"Only YOU can express how YOU feel...and I'm a stickler for having it told the way it has to be!"

Iris pre-programs her Lingraphica device with messages before important events, like doctor's appointments.
That way, she won't miss out on any big conversations — even when Parkinson's disease makes speaking difficult.
