Finding out that ADHD in women was barely studied until the 90s can bring up a lot of emotions.
For many women, there’s a mix of anger, grief, and relief because so many spent years wondering why things felt harder, why they were constantly exhausted, or why they had to work twice as hard to keep up.
Many women learned to mask, overcompensate, become perfectionists, or internalize their struggles instead of being recognized as having a different way of processing attention, emotions, and executive functioning.
💖 A late diagnosis isn’t proof that your struggles weren’t real. It’s often proof that the way ADHD was understood didn’t include everyone who had it.
Understanding your brain later in life can be validating. It can help you replace “Why was I like this?” with “What support did I need all along?” 🧘♀️
