In the late 1970s, about 75% of women diagnosed with breast cancer were alive five years later. Today, it's more than 90%.

Better treatment is part of that story. Earlier detection is a big part, too. Most breast cancers are now found while they're still confined to the breast, which is when treatment works best.

Most people think a mammogram only looks for one thing. It can also show an early sign of heart disease.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the U.S., and many don't know their risk until something goes wrong. One early clue is breast arterial calcification (BAC), small calcium deposits in the blood vessels of the breast that have been linked to a higher risk of heart disease.

Most practices don't report it. Princeton Radiology does. When our radiologists see BAC on your mammogram (SmartMamm), it's included in your report so you and your doctor can decide together whether to take a closer look at your heart health.
