A little silliness can go a LONG way for language development! 🐝💛

Try this simple song with a favorite toy:

🎶 “Put it on your HEAD (head!)
Put it on your NOSE (nose!)
Sneeze, sneeze, sneeze…
And DOWN it goes!
ACHOOOO!” 🤧😂

Why it works:
👀 Face-to-face modeling
🔁 Repetition
👆 Following directions
🗣️ Learning body-part vocabulary
😂 Most importantly… FUN + connection!

Change the body part each time and keep the rest of the song the same. Kids love repetition—and repetition gives them more opportunities to learn!

The easiest way to get kids talking? Make them LAUGH! 😂🐝

Try this silly little song with a favorite toy or object:

🎶 “Put it on your HEAD (head!)
Put it on your NOSE (nose!)
Sneeze, sneeze, sneeze…
And DOWN it goes!
ACHOOOO! 🤧😂”

Why does this work so well for language development?

👀 Get face-to-face: Hold the item near your face so your child can see your mouth and watch you articulate the words.

🔁 Repetition, repetition, repetition: Repeated songs and phrases give children multiple opportunities to hear and practice language. Repetition is the mother of all learning! 🧠

👃 Change it up: “Put it on your shoulder!” “Put it on your head!” “Put it on your nose!” Keep the rest of the song the same while changing one part.

👉 Build understanding of directions: Words like “down” can be paired with an actual action, helping children connect words with meaning.

😂 Make it silly: When you laugh, exaggerate, sneeze, and act surprised, you’re creating meaningful connection and engagement—and connection is a building block for language development.

You don’t need fancy toys or complicated activities. Sometimes the best language-learning moments are the silly, repetitive ones you create together. 💛🐝

🛒✨ Turn your next grocery trip into an active learning adventure!

The grocery store is FULL of opportunities to build communication and executive functioning skills without needing a worksheet or structured activity. 🐝

Try involving your child in:
🍎 Naming foods by color, shape, size, and food group
🥕 Talking about where foods grow or how they’re made
💬 Asking open-ended questions like, “What can we make with this?”
📝 Reading the shopping list, labels, and signs together
⚖️ Using words like heavy/light, big/small, more/less, and one/many
🧠 Finding specific items to practice attention
⏰ Waiting in line and walking slowly to practice self-control
🍪 Choosing between two options to practice decision-making
🔄 Changing your route when an aisle is blocked to practice cognitive flexibility

And remember—you don’t have to turn every moment into a lesson. Talk, model, describe, and let your child participate. Those everyday interactions are powerful! 💛

🐝 Follow the Chatterbugs Series for more simple, everyday ways to build communication, language, and life skills through activities you’re already doing!

🐝💬 Play & practice! Then create REAL language opportunities!

Some of the best language practice doesn’t happen at a table—it happens while ordering a muffin, paying at the grocery store, saying hello to a cashier, or asking for help. These everyday interactions give children meaningful opportunities to use language in the moment and with people outside their immediate family. 💛

Here’s what children are practicing:

🛒 Functional Vocabulary: Words connected to real objects and actions—“menu,” “receipt,” “please,” “total,” “money,” “order,” and so many more!

👋 Pragmatic Language: Greeting others, waiting for a turn, making eye contact when appropriate, responding to questions, and participating in social routines.

👂 Receptive Language: Listening to and following directions from unfamiliar adults in new environments.

💬 Expressive Language: Making requests, answering questions, commenting, and communicating what they want or need.

And the best part? Real-world practice helps children generalize their skills. When children use language in different places and with different people, they learn that communication isn’t just something we practice during therapy—it’s something we use everywhere!

🌎 Contextual learning gives words meaning.
🔄 Generalization helps skills carry over into everyday life.
💛 Low-pressure repetition gives children opportunities to build confidence and try new language at their own pace.

So the next time you’re out running errands, grabbing a snack, or stopping at a store, remember: that everyday interaction can be a language-learning opportunity!

And if you want even MORE ideas, connection, and support for building your child’s communication skills, don’t forget to sign up for the upcoming 6-week Chatterbugs Language & Learning Class! 🐝💬

🎭✨ Dress-up = language learning in disguise!

Pretend play helps little ones build vocabulary, practice conversations, tell stories, negotiate with friends, listen, and even practice seeing things from someone else’s perspective. 🗣️💭💕

So the next time your child puts on a superhero cape, grabs a pretend stethoscope, or turns a cardboard box into a spaceship… PLAY ALONG! 🚀

And if you want more simple, play-based ways to support your child’s speech and language, join me for the upcoming Chatterbugs Series! 🐝💛

🎭🗣️ Dress-up and language development go hand in hand!

Pretend play is SO much more than just cute costumes and silly games—it’s a powerful opportunity for children to practice language in meaningful, functional ways. 💛

When children pretend to be doctors, firefighters, chefs, superheroes, teachers, or anything else their imagination creates, they are:

✨ Building vocabulary — learning and using specific words like stethoscope, prescription, ingredients, or rescue.

✨ Developing symbolic thinking — understanding that a costume, toy, or random household object can represent something else.

✨ Building storytelling skills — creating characters, plots, problems, and solutions while learning how stories have a beginning, middle, and end.

✨ Practicing social communication — negotiating roles, sharing props, listening to others, taking turns, responding, and keeping a conversation going.

✨ Developing perspective-taking — pretending to be someone else gives children opportunities to think about how another person might feel, what they might say, or what they might do.

You don’t need fancy toys or elaborate costumes, either! A cardboard box, blanket, mixing bowl, old purse, hat, or stuffed animal can become the perfect prop for a language-rich play experience. 🧸👒📦

And if you want MORE simple, practical ideas for building speech and language through everyday play, the Chatterbugs Series is coming up! 🐝✨

It’s designed to give you easy strategies you can actually use during play, routines, and everyday interactions with your little one.
