Vitiligo is visible on the skin, but the misunderstanding around it can be just as harmful.

June is Vitiligo Awareness Month, and we'll be sharing useful information to help everyone better understand this condition.

Vitiligo happens when the skin loses pigment in certain areas. These patches can appear slowly or quickly, and they can affect the face, hands, arms, feet, lips, hair, and other areas.

This month, we will talk about:

- Early signs of vitiligo
- Sun protection for lighter patches
- Common myths and facts
- Safe ways to care for affected skin
- When to see a dermatology provider

Awareness should feel clear, useful, and supportive.

Follow us and don't miss our posts this month.

Early detection starts with knowing your skin.

You see your skin more than anyone else.

That makes self-checks important.

Look for: New spots, changing spots, sores that do not heal, spots that bleed, moles with uneven shape or color or anything that looks different from your other spots

When you know your skins, you can notice changes sooner.

When was the last time you checked your skin for changes?

“I noticed a mole that looked different, so I booked a skin check. Thankfully, it wasn’t anything serious, but I’m so glad I didn’t ignore it.

Now I come in for regular check-ups and feel much more at ease.”

A quick skin check can give you clarity and peace of mind.

If you have a mole or spot that looks new, different, or changing, let one of our providers take a look. đź‘€

Skin cancer can affect anyone.

Some people have a higher risk than others, but no one has zero risk.

Your risk may increase if you have lighter skin, a history of sunburns, many moles, indoor tanning history, a family or personal history of skin cancer, or frequent sun exposure.

Knowing your risk helps you make better choices for your skin.

Which of these risk factors do you think people ignore the most?

A mole does not have to look “scary” to deserve attention.

That’s why the ABCDE rule matters.

Here’s what ABCDE stands for:

A is for Asymmetry: one half of the mole doesn’t match the other.
B is for Border: the edges are uneven, blurred, or irregular.
C is for Color: there are multiple colors or unusual shades.
D is for Diameter: it’s larger than a pencil eraser.
E is for Evolving: it changes in size, shape, color, or feel.

Change is one of the biggest warning signs.

So don’t just ask, “Does this look bad?”

Ask, “Has this changed?”

Take a quick photo once a month so you can compare it over time.

If something looks new, different, or changing, don’t guess.

Let one of our providers take a look. đź‘€

Sunscreen is not your whole skin cancer plan.

Yes, you need it.

But sunscreen works best when you use it with other protection.

- Wear a wide-brimmed hat
- Use sunglasses with UV protection
- Look for shade when the sun is strong
- Wear protective clothing when you can
- Reapply sunscreen, especially after sweating or swimming

Skin cancer prevention works better when you layer your protection.

Protect your skin before the damage shows. How do you protect your skin when you spend time outdoors?
