O-negative blood is known as the universal blood type because it can be given to anyone during emergencies when there’s no time to determine a patient’s blood type. That makes every O-negative donation incredibly important.

Not sure what your blood type is? Come find out! Appointments are needed now to help keep hospital shelves stocked for patients in need ❤️

Even our Donor Specialists are donors! 🩸

Team member Chris rolled up his sleeves to save 3 lives — and lucky for him, his coworker Candice had his back with a perfect donor experience.

We're heading into summer with blood supplies running low, and we're asking our community to help us close the gap. Before your summer plans, come visit our team and give the gift that truly saves lives. ❤️

Makenna and Clara didn’t just support their school blood drives — they helped redefine how their campus (and generation!) talks about blood donation.

The graduating seniors turned a simple idea into something much bigger when they started creating funny skit videos to promote their school’s blood drives. What began as a fun way to encourage classmates quickly took off, with one video going viral and reaching 1.3 million likes — proving that lifesaving awareness can start with a single post. Check it out at bit.ly/43eXETY.

“We knew people were entertained by funny and inspiring videos, so we made some with just that,” Clara said.

Inspired by the story of Warwick teen Matthew Dennison and the advocacy work his family continues today, Makenna felt called to get involved and help others through blood donation.

“Donating blood means saving three lives,” Makenna shared. “If anyone I knew needed blood, I’d be there right away.”

Clara, a consistent donor since turning 16, helped run promotions, welcome donors, and use social media to make donation feel approachable — especially for first-time donors.

Her favorite moment came after the video went viral, when commenters said it inspired them to donate. “I loved that it gave people a laugh but also made them want to start donating,” she said.

Together, they represent a new generation of advocates — Gen Z donors using creativity, humor, and their platforms to inspire others to save lives.

This fall, both Makenna and Clara will attend the University of Rhode Island, where they plan to continue donating and encouraging new classmates to get involved. From the entire RIBC team, congrats to you both! 🎓

When Eric first wanted to donate, he assumed it wasn’t possible. For many LGBTQ+ individuals, blood donation simply wasn’t an option for decades.

After years of advocacy, research, and community voices pushing for change, updated eligibility guidelines established in 2023 opened the door for more people to give safely and inclusively.

Today, Eric donates knowing that because of donors like him, someone else will have a more time with their loved ones.

This Pride Month, we celebrate progress, advocacy, and the growing community of donors helping save lives. 🏳️‍🌈

Donna used to avoid donating blood, but after learning about the process and the benefits of giving, she realized her impact would be lifesaving.

Inspired by a close friend who was a firefighter and first responder, she started donating two years ago and hasn’t looked back. “I gave the gift of life today” isn’t just a sign, it’s the truth! 💪❤️

Portsmouth High School senior Sam turned a class requirement into something much bigger: a project focused on inspiring classmates to donate blood and helping build the next generation of lifelong donors.

Graduating this spring, Sam has balanced classes, two jobs, and a busy marching band season — including a performance in front of the Jefferson Memorial — while taking on a leadership role in her school’s January blood drive.

“Originally my senior project was something else, but it did not impact my community as much as I wanted it to. I already had plans to hold an assembly with RIBC Account Manager Mrs. Beaulieu, so I switched my focus to that.”

Pivoting toward donor education, Sam led a school-wide presentation on the importance of blood donation and student involvement. Through word-of-mouth outreach and promotion, she worked to increase awareness ahead of her school drive.

“My project itself was the goal of increasing donors within my high school and inspiring/informing more young adults to hopefully create waves within my generation with an outcome of more lifelong donors.”

And the effort paid off, with more students showing up to donate at the blood drive. Many donors say their first experience donating happens at their high school, and because of Sam’s efforts, these young Portsmouth donors may just develop a lifelong, lifesaving habit.

After graduation, Sam will attend Colorado School of Mines to study Applied Mathematics and Statistics and plans to continue supporting blood donation wherever life takes her.

We’re proud to see students leading by example, strengthening their communities, and helping inspire a future generation of donors. Thank you, Sam! ❤️

At the Warwick Donor Center, few donors are as familiar or dedicated as Peter Foss, who is approaching an incredible milestone of 250 platelet donations.

Peter first began donating whole blood decades ago, inspired by his father’s example and a lifelong belief in helping others whenever possible. Over time, he transitioned to platelet donation and quickly came to understand just how vital platelets are for cancer patients, including children undergoing treatment.

His motivation is also deeply personal. Years ago, Peter watched a friend’s son battle leukemia, an experience that left a lasting impact. He has also faced several serious health challenges of his own, experiences that strengthened both his gratitude for life and his commitment to giving back.

For Peter, donation is simply part of who he is. He often encourages others to donate, hoping to ease hesitation and show how meaningful the experience can be. He also values the relationships he has built with the Warwick team over the years, especially the familiar faces who have become part of his routine.

A proud husband and father of two, Peter approaches this milestone with the same humility and generosity that have defined his decades of giving. His story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact one person can make through simple, consistent acts of kindness.
