❤️ Feeling butterflies? It might not be your crush. 👀

A fluttering heart could be a sign of atrial fibrillation, also known as AFib. Palpitations, shortness of breath, unusual fatigue, and dizziness are symptoms you shouldn't ignore.

If you're experiencing these symptoms, talk with your healthcare provider about what you're feeling and the next steps for your care.

Patti Collings, 77, didn’t want to travel for a heart procedure on her leaky tricuspid heart valve — especially when she had a physician she trusted and a new treatment option just five blocks from home.

Her confidence in Dr. Daniel Bennett led her to become the first patient to receive the TriClip procedure through the new program at Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital.

Patti underwent the minimally invasive TriClip procedure, which uses a small tube guided through a vein in the groin to place clips on the heart valve and reduce leakage—without open-heart surgery. After one night of monitoring, she returned home and was soon back to her normal routine.

For Patti and her husband, Bruce, receiving this advanced treatment nearby made the experience much more convenient. A longtime BYU statistics educator, Patti wanted to understand the risks and felt confident moving forward with a physician she trusted.

“I felt really, really blessed,” Patti said.

By offering TriClip locally, Utah Valley's care team hopes to help more patients feel better and improve their quality of life without requiring them to travel to Salt Lake City.

What a wonderful evening connecting with our community!

Last week, Intermountain Health partnered with Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine for a health screening event at Timpanogos Elementary School, and the turnout and impact were incredible. Events like these help ensure students at Title I schools have access to important screenings and resources that support their health and well-being

A special thank you to Michelle Cameron with Intermountain Community Health Initiatives @ Utah Valley Hospital - for sharing valuable mental health information and resources with families. Your dedication to supporting the whole health of our community makes a meaningful difference.

Medical students from@ Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine provided a variety of screenings, including height, weight, vision, hearing, vital signs, and reflex checks, helping families better understand and support their children's health.

We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such outstanding partners and proud to support initiatives that help children grow up healthy, safe, and strong. It truly takes a community, and we are honored to be part of one that cares so deeply for its families.

As the BYU School of Medicine’s primary clinical affiliate, Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital offers our sincere congratulations on today's announcement by the university. We look forward to working with your future students.

The BYU School of Medicine has received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), authorizing the school to recruit and admit students and launch its MD program.

The school will welcome its first students in July 2027 and will begin accepting applications in the coming weeks following activation of its listing on the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS).

The BYU Board of Trustees has also approved plans for the school's future home, a 275,000-square-foot building on BYU's West Campus, just east of Intermountain Health's Utah Valley Hospital—the School of Medicine’s primary clinical affiliate. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027.

Please join us in congratulating Meli Rangel, with PBX as a recipient of our L.O.V.E. Award!

Meli exemplified what it means to put people first when she took the initiative to solve an issue affecting patients, visitors, and caregivers trying to reach Utah Valley Hospital. Rather than simply reporting the problem, she went above and beyond by investigating the issue, collaborating with multiple teams, and discovering that Siri was directing callers to the wrong phone number. She even submitted a report to Apple to help prevent future issues.

What makes Meli's efforts especially remarkable is that resolving an external technology issue was not part of her role. She pursued a solution because she genuinely cared about helping people connect with the care and information they needed.
Her compassion, persistence, initiative, and dedication removed a barrier for our community and made a meaningful difference for those we serve.

Thank you, Meli, for living our values every day and for demonstrating L.O.V.E. in Action!

In less than two years, one close-knit family faced two life-threatening diagnoses, two battles with bacterial meningitis and a relentless search for answers. Through it all, Lyndsey Russell fought first for her daughter, Olivia—and then for her own life.

Olivia was a 4.0 student and dedicated water polo player when severe abdominal pain began taking over her life. She missed school, left the sport she loved and endured months of testing and surgeries before being diagnosed with median arcuate ligament syndrome, a rare condition. Specialized surgery brought relief—but weeks later, she collapsed at home with bacterial meningitis and spent two weeks in intensive care.

Through hospitalizations, three surgeries, a feeding tube, a PICC line and countless sleepless nights, Lyndsey focused on Olivia’s care. She dismissed her own headaches, fatigue, vision problems and physical changes as stress—until a scan revealed a hormone-producing brain tumor larger than a golf ball pressing on her optic nerve and pituitary gland.

Lyndsey underwent brain surgery in June 2026. After a week in the ICU, she returned home—but soon collapsed, just as Olivia had months earlier. The same ambulance crew responded, and the diagnosis was again bacterial meningitis. Lyndsey spent another two and a half weeks in intensive care as her teams worked to relieve dangerous pressure in her brain.

Today, Olivia is back at school part time, working and trying out for water polo again. Lyndsey has returned to the work she loves, although uncertainty remains. She began at Intermountain as a pediatric office receptionist and now serves as vice president of the South Market Medical Group. Experiencing healthcare as both a mother and a patient strengthened her commitment to making care clearer, more compassionate and easier to navigate.

Through every frightening turn, caregivers coordinated complex care, communicated honestly and helped the family understand what came next. Small acts mattered, too: a friend connected them with the right specialist; a nurse made sure Lyndsey stopped to eat; café employees remembered Olivia’s name; colleagues carried the workload; and caregivers offered a toothbrush, water or a kind word when it was needed most.

“Each small moment is an opportunity to be the most powerful influence for good,” Lyndsey said, “with the very smallest of actions.” Her family’s story reminds us that we rarely know everything another person is carrying.

Compassion and thoughtful care may take only a moment, but their impact can last a lifetime. We are grateful for the caregivers who showed up for Lyndsey and Olivia — and for families like theirs who remind us why this work matters.

“The biggest barrier was accepting I needed help.”

For Quinn Linde, a high school principal, husband, and dad of three, weight wasn’t always a struggle. He grew up active and athletic. But like a lot of people in their 30s, life got busy.

Career. Family. Long days. Less time to take care of himself. Over the years, the weight slowly added up.

“I tried every fad diet you can think of,” Quinn says. “I would lose 50 pounds, then gain it back. Lose 80, then gain it back. That cycle went on for 15 years.”

At his highest, Quinn reached 320 pounds. The daily impact was real.

“I couldn’t even go hiking with my family,” he says. “The simplest things were becoming hard.”

But for Quinn, the turning point wasn’t one moment. It was years of knowing something needed to change.

“The biggest barrier was accepting I needed help,” he says.

That decision led him to bariatric care through Intermountain Health. From the first appointment, Quinn says he felt supported, informed, and never judged.

“I never felt an ounce of judgment,” he says. “I felt included in every decision and actually understood what was happening in my body.”

Nearly a year later, Quinn says the changes go far beyond the scale.

“I’m happier,” he says. “Food doesn’t control my life anymore. It’s not what I think about all day.”

He’s more active. More present with his family. And free from medications he once relied on.

“I feel like I pushed the reset button,” he says. “This is the best decision I’ve ever made for myself and for my family.”

Now, Quinn wants people, especially those in their 30s and 40s like him, to know they don’t have to wait.

“If you’re struggling, don’t let fear or what you see online make the decision for you,” he says. “Educate yourself. There may be an answer for you.”

And for Quinn, that message is personal.

“I want to be an advocate,” he says. “There are a lot of people out there going through the same thing. You’re not alone.”

If you’re considering bariatric surgery or wondering if it might be right for you, help is available.
