Mr. Melvin E. Henderson

Melvin E. Henderson, a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, was born on March 8, 1954, to the late Margaret R. Henderson Brown and John C. Henderson. He was the third of seven children.

Melvin accepted Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life. Raised on a strong spiritual foundation, he was an active member of Old Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served on the Usher Board.

Melvin received his education through Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1973. As a young man, he was a passionate athlete and proudly played on his high school and College basketball team.

In 1980, Melvin moved to Pulaski, Tennessee, where he began his career with Frito-Lay as a Machine Operator and Forklift Driver. He dedicated more than 30 years of service to the company before retiring in 2011.

On January 17, 1986, Melvin married the love of his life, Anna Henderson. Together they shared over 40 years of love, partnership, and devotion. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Keshia Henderson Gordon. Melvin was a devoted husband, loving father, dedicated provider, and proud family man who treasured every moment spent with those he loved.

On June 17, 2026, Melvin departed this earthly life at the age of 72, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, dedication, and cherished memories.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, John C. Henderson and Margaret Ray Henderson Brown; his brother, Robert L. Henderson; his stepson, Lemuel Lancaster; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Leonard and Linda Whitworth.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Anna Henderson; his daughter, Keshia Henderson Gordon (Nate); his stepchildren, Carl Marks and Lisa Lancaster; his sisters, Iris A. Henderson (Wilbert) and Regina D. Stigger (Nelson); his brothers, Calvin Henderson, Larry E. Henderson (Ellen), and Jerome D. Edmonds.

He also leaves his treasured grandchildren: Jakiyah Gilbert, Destiny Lee, Jayla Lee, Keaisha Gordon, Nyla Gordon, Kyla Gordon, Zyon Gordon, Delacy Lancaster, Corbin White, Piper White, Kash Marks, Ora Marks, and Caury Marks; three great-grandchildren: Amari Watson, Hazley Bowers, and Jayslin Lancaster.

Additionally, he leaves to mourn his passing his sisters-in-law: Stella Beets, Joyce Ballentine (Danny), and Wanda Ann Smith, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Funeral Service for Mr. Melvin E. Henderson will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 beginning with visitation at 11am and the 12noon funeral service immediately following at Old Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 658 East Washington Street, Pulaski, TN.

Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Pulaski, TN.

Mrs. Jeweline Hardin Holt was born November 17, 1941, in Pulaski, TN., to the late Nancy and Charlie Louis Hardin. She attended Public Schools in Giles County, Tennessee.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Evan, Edward, Robert, Asa and her sister Betty Lockett. Son- in-law Sammy Holt.

She accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church in Elkton, TN where she served in the choir until her health failed.

Jeweline had one daughter that she cherished, Valorie Ann Holt. She was united in marriage to Robert Holt on January 25, 1975. Jewel, as she was affectionally known by everyone, loved serving in her church, cooking and spending time with family. She could always be found in the middle of the crowd talking to everyone about old times and playing with all the children of the family.

Jewel leaves to cherish her memories, husband, Robert Holt, daughter, Valorie A. Holt. Brother, Kenneth Hardin of California. Bonus sister/cousin, Barbara Johnson of Louisville, Ky., Sister-in-law, Alice Hardin of Nashville, TN; A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Jerry B. Gentry

Mr. Jerry B. Gentry was born March 9, 1965. He was the son of L B Gentry and the late Betty Katherine Randolph Gentry. He entered everlasting life on March 18, 2026 at the Manchester Center for Rehabilitation and Healing in Manchester, TN.

Jerry was a very cheerful, kind, and distinguished gentleman. He always kept a nice smile and could make anybody laugh with his great sense of humor. Jerry was an unselfish person always wanting to know how others were doing. He loved his parents, family, and friends very much.

Jerry loved to dress nice and he kept a pleasant appearance with his long locs of hair on point every time you saw him. Back in the day he liked to play cards at the family cookouts.

Later on in life Jerry had been on a consistent spiritual path for the last 12 years of his life and made a lot of positive accomplishments.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his father, L B Gentry he so dearly loved; his brothers, Frank “Tubb” Randolph, David Gentry and Travis Gentry and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a very special dedicated and devoted friend, Gary Pinson.

Mr. Marcus Quintez Sizemore

Mr. Marcus Quintez Sizemore of Pulaski was born on August 7, 1986, to the late Percy L. Sizemore and Sandra Sizemore. He transitioned from this earthly life on March 9, 2026.

Marcus's early education took place in Decatur, AL, and he graduated from Giles County High School in 2005.

He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at a young age, beginning his spiritual journey at Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend John Gray. He later joined the Temple of Praise Church, where he served as an armor bearer for Apostle Stanley Garrett. Marcus was also a minister and preached his first sermon on December 12, 2017.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Marcus especially loved the NBA Grizzlies, the LA Lakers basketball team, Alabama Tide and Tennessee Titans. He enjoyed playing on his PS5, traveling, and participating in family gatherings. His favorite song was “Bless Me.”

Marcus was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Sandra Sizemore; his grandmother, Wilma Sizemore; his grandfather, Marion Robinson; and his grandparents, Reverend Riley Herman and Iva Lou Tucker.

He is survived by his sister, Porsha Sizemore, and brother, Jerrell Sizemore, both of Pulaski; two nephews, Jeremiah and Amarion Sizemore; one niece, Samaria Sizemore; and a great-niece, Naomi Sizemore, all of Pulaski, TN. Additionally, he is survived by his aunts, Virginia (Herbert) Wallace, Dorothy (Billy White), Donna (Noble) Perry, Kelly Sizemore, and Ann Garrett; uncles Christopher and Tawanna Sizemore, Herman (Janice Tucker), and William Tucker; step-grandmother Shirley Robinson of Boston, Massachusetts as well as a host of cousins and friends, including a special friend, Monica Sizemore.
Marcus will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral Service for Marcus Quintez Sizemore will be held on Friday, March 13th, 2026 with visitation from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M., and the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. at Temple of Praise Church, 1030 Ragsdale Lane Pulaski, TN.

Mrs. Louise Ballentine Young

Mrs. Mary Louise Ballentine Young of Pulaski was born on May 27, 1943, to the late Robert and Susie Ballentine. She departed this life on February 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, and devotion to family.

Mary grew up in the Goodspring Community, where she attended school before later attending Bridgeforth School. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and began her faith journey at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Charles McElroy.

Mary dedicated many years of faithful service to Arvin before retiring. She was known for her strong work ethic and quiet resilience.

Family was the center of Mary’s world. She loved spending time with her loved ones and often hosted holidays and gatherings in her home. She had a special gift in the kitchen and found joy in cooking meals that brought everyone together. She also enjoyed gardening and had a yard full of beautiful flowers.

When asked how she was doing, Mary would often smile and simply say, “Holding on.” Those words reflected her strength, her faith, and her determination throughout life. Even in difficult moments, she continued holding on with grace.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Susie Ballentine; brothers, Robert A., Ernest, and Milroy; sisters, Jennie, Mamie, and Lillie; and her great-granddaughter, Paisley.

Those left to cherish her loving memory include her sons, Ricky (Melody) Ballentine and Andrew Young; granddaughters, Kandice (Terrance) Huff, Whitney Ballentine, and Ashley Ballentine; grandsons, J’dyn Young, Kamdyn Young, and Braelyn Young; nephew, Shaun Ballentine; niece Shelia (James) McElroy; great-grandchildren, Terrance Jr., Carson, Asher, Kairyn, Maddox, and Abigail; her living siblings, Willie Ballentine Sr., Martha Ballentine, Evelyne (David) Reedus, and Brenda Ballentine; brother-in-law, Claude Suttle Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

Mary’s life was a reflection of faith and enduring love. Though she is no longer here with us, her spirit, her warmth, and her words, “Holding on” will forever remain in our hearts.

Ms. Joanna Washington Larkins

Ms. Joanna Washington Larkins age 88 was born May 10, 1937 to the late Louis and Bessie Washington in Bethel, TN. Joanna made her earthly transition to her eternal rest on December 30, 2025 surrounded by family.

Joanna accepted Christ at a young age at Willow Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she also received her early education which at the time was school and church. She later moved to Elkmont with her family where she attended Trinity High School.

As an adult she moved to Nashville where she was a member of Pilgrim Emanuel Baptist Church 50 plus years under the leadership of Reverend Oscar Miles. She served as President of Senior Usher Board. She sang in the church #2 Choir. She also served in the church Willing Works Auxiliary. After leaving Pilgrim she then joined with Hicks Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Pastor Jerry Holt.

Joanna attended Nashville Cosmetology School graduating and receiving her license to do hair. She was a beautician for 60 plus years. She was a member of the Tennessee Beautician Association.

Joanna was united in holy matrimony to Denver Larkins who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, John David Washington and James “aka Ginny” Washington; Sisters, Addie Lee Gilbert, Mary Virginia Johnson, Christine Johnson and Lou Ella Washington; Brother-in-laws, William H. Gilbert, John A. Johnson and Gilbert Johnson; and Sister-in-law, Liz Washighton.

Joanna leaves to cherish her memories her baby sister, Nell Ruth (Mitchell) Birdsong; her devoted niece, Darlene Birdsong; bonus nephew Henry Birdsong; bonus children, Julian and Beverly Silverfield, life-long friend of 63 years, Elizabeth B. Cooke and a host of additional nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews and cousins. She will be truly missed.

Mr. James Cornell Gilbert, Sr

Mr. James Cornell Gilbert, Sr., 98, of Pulaski, Tennessee, passed away on December 31, 2025. Born on November 22, 1927, in Stella, Tennessee, James lived a life full of unmatched determination and work ethic that guided his life.

James attended Bridgeforth High School in Giles County and there soon after joined the United States Army and became a Sergeant working on training officers on artillery and infantry weapons in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Shortly after leaving the military, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he resided for a significant portion of his life.

James worked for the United States Postal Service (USPS) for 40 years and 10 months. He also worked as a maintenance man for Markwood Apartments on the southside of Indianapolis for 30 years.

James made the move back to Ethridge, Tennessee in 1992 where he was able to get back to his true passion: hunting for game, farming, gardening. Over his years of life, James always had a passion for tending to a garden and farm animals (goats, cows and chickens). He enjoyed working in his garden and growing cabbage, rattlesnake beans and turnip greens. James also enjoyed playing cards and listening to a San Francisco Giants game on the radio.

The importance of family was always a strong pillar in James’ life. He always made the effort to reach out to his loved ones - whether through a phone call or cards in the mail. He was never afraid to lend a helping hand to others.

He was also a member of the Chestnut Grove Community Church in Prospect, Tennessee where he also served as a Deacon.

Later on in his life, some of James’ hobbies included collecting model cars, riding on his tractor and Kawasaki Mule, and watching hummingbirds from his back porch in the countryside.

James was preceded in death by his parents Marion Gilbert and Ben Gilbert; his brother, Earl Ezel Gilbert; his sisters Marvalene Gilbert, Ada Williams, Katherine Reynolds; and his sons James (Elsandra) Gilbert Jr. and Willard (Jessie Mae) Dean Gilbert.

James is survived by his children: son Larry (Tracey) Gilbert of Virginia and Kathy Gilbert of Indiana; girlfriend: Louise Alexander of Utah; his 10 grandchildren: Sharon Gilbert of Tennessee, Tamara Gilbert of Tennessee, Theresa Gilbert of Tennessee, Wallace Gilbert of Tennessee, Tony Gilbert of Tennessee, Shawntel Carpenter of Texas, Mary (Natasha) Gilbert of Virginia, Shannon Gilbert of Virginia, Naomi Gilbert of California, Mary Gilbert of California and Kayla Saunders of Indiana; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

Through James’ unwavering strength and kind spirit he survived anything that life threw at him. He will be remembered for the life he worked so hard to build. The legacy he leaves behind will not be remembered just by his family, but by the people whose lives he touched throughout his 98 years of life. May he rest in peace.

Mr. Joseph Erastus Sutton

Mr. Joseph Erastus Sutton of Pulaski was born July 5, 1948 to the late Wilson and Blanche Sutton in Pulaski, TN. He transitioned to his eternal rest on December 13, 2025 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, TN.

Joseph Sutton was a dedicated history teacher, in Pulaski and Huntsville AL, whose influence spanned many decades and countless lives. He was a well-respected citizen in Pulaski and surrounding communities, known for his integrity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to education and service.

He graduated from Giles County High School, and furthered his education by attending and graduating from Tennessee State University.

He found God as a youth and attended Beulah Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon and Treasurer.

A true community leader, Joseph served with multiple organizations and was a County Commissioner. He also held the role of President of the NAACP, where he worked tirelessly to promote equality, civic engagement, and opportunity for all. His leadership left a lasting imprint on the community he loved.

He also served as treasurer of the Greater Richland Creek M.B. Association. In addition, he was Chairman of the Pulaski Regional Planning Committee, and a former President of the Giles Community Education Association, Joseph was exceptionally well read and possessed a deep knowledge of history, culture, and current events.

He was also an avid sports enthusiast, closely following school, local, and national teams.

Often called the Sutton family historian, Joseph carried with him a remarkable memory and a deep respect for family legacy. This same gift extended to his students—he knew them well and remembered not only their names, but also their families and life stories. These moments reflected the profound and enduring relationships he built over a lifetime of teaching.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Blanche Sutton, and his sister, Naomi Whitfield.

He leaves to mourn many loving cousins and a special friend, Elizabeth Gardner, along with generations of students, colleagues, and community members who will forever remember his guidance, kindness, and dedication.

Public Viewing for Joseph Erastus Sutton will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025 from 3pm until 6pm at Jordan Funeral Home, 327 Mill Street, Pulaski, TN.
