Robert Lee Johnson

Robert Lee Johnson, 96, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at his home surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born December 3, 1929 to Chester A. and Mary (Rowe) Johnson in Punxsutawney.

Bob was a graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School in 1947. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Air Force. Bob graduated from IUP with a teaching degree and a Master’s degree from Penn State. He was a beloved and well-respected teacher for 42 years at Brookville High School. He had many interests and traveled extensively with his nephew Darren visiting 34 of the 50 states. Bob also traveled throughout Europe. He had many hobbies. He was a great photographer, an expert mechanic, interior decorator, as evident in his home, and woodworking. He made walking sticks and gave them to relatives and friends. Bob was the most generous man, always giving to anyone in need. It was a family joke, not to tell Bob you liked something, because he would give it to you on the spot. He was a man we all aspire to be, loving, kind, non-judgmental, empathetic, generous and authentic.

He is survived by his sister, Kay Sherry, Punxsutawney, two special nephews; Darren Sherry and wife Susan, OH, and Ken Sherry and wife Karin, NY, two special nieces Mary Kay Sherry, Punxsutawney, who was his caregiver until the very end, as well as Joan Simpson, Houston, TX and two great nieces, Alyssa Sherry, NY and Jenna Sherry, NY, of whom he was very proud.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Yvonne, Helen and Donna, and his best friend and brother-in-law Don Sherry.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

At Bob’s request, there will be no visitation. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

The McCabe Funeral Home of Punxsutawney, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Nancy A. Morgan

Nancy A. Morgan, 72, of Mahaffey PA peacefully went to be home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 9, 2026 at 8:47pm at home surrounded by her family.

I know this isn’t a traditional obituary but nothing about my Mom was “ordinary”. Her story is one of courage, determination and finding the strength to never give up. If she were sitting here with me, she would probably tell me to make this short; but she was the best Mom/Wife/Grandma “Popouie” in the world and deserves nothing less than a novel. Since there’s simply not enough time in the world to describe how amazing she was, I’m going to paint you a picture of all the highlights.

Where do I even begin? My Mom and Dad were married on August 2nd 1975 and recently just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In my Dad’s own words, marriage is all about “Quality over quantity - but we were blessed to have both”. Not many people have the privilege of spending 50 great years with the love of their life; but they did. Even in the hardest of times, they were always by each other’s side and set an example of what real, unwavering love is. Even in her final moments, he held her hand and never let go.

She spent her younger years obtaining a masters degree in communications and taught as a college professor at George Mason University and Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She then homeschooled me, which was nothing short of a miracle and helped me graduate at the age of sixteen. There was nothing she wasn’t good at. She could sew just about anything, she took Wilton cake decorating classes and designed almost every birthday cake we ever had and made the best Thanksgiving gravy you’ve ever tasted. She loved to decorate and was always willing to loan her massive collection of flowers and wedding decor to anyone in need. She loved to sing, play the piano and worship God. When she was younger she even played the accordion. In the quiet moments, you would find her reading her Bible and sharing encouraging scriptures with us and others through text message. Encouraging others was always her priority.

Her favorite weather was rain and her favorite color was green - although she would always say she loved all the colors since “God made them all”. She loved sitting on the back porch and listening to a good thunderstorm with my Dad. She was a radio broadcaster, a Sunday School Superintendent, a counselor, an ordained minister and an avid gardener. She loved her family, her dogs, her Lord and Savior and her tomato plants. She loved spending time with my Dad, they were inseparable for as long as I can remember. They made friends just about everywhere they went and most of the cashiers at Walmart knew them by name. Many of you probably remember them for their daily trips to WalMart and McDonalds. Most days they never needed anything, they just wanted to “get out of the house” and spend time together.

Mom always took every opportunity to talk about God with others - even the hospice nurses. She would always ask them how their relationship with the Lord was. If I could describe her in one word, it would be “selfless”. Even when she wasn’t feeling well, she would pray for everyone else. She would ask how they’re doing. She never once complained - even in private - she saw God in everything. I once asked her how she got through her own Mother’s passing and she replied, “Prayer”. That was always the answer. She had such a passion and zest for life. Her body was tired but her spirit was not. Her favorite scripture verse that she quoted many times over again was Psalm 118:17 “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord”.

She would not want to be remembered for her eight year battle against cancer, instead she would want to be remembered for her commitment to her family and her love for God.

If my Mom were writing this, she would want me to tell you that God is real and so is healing. She would say not to ever blame God or be angry with Him when situations don’t seemingly turn out how you want them to. 1 Corinthians 13:12 "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."

She is now walking the streets of glory with her parents, George Pembleton, Jr. and Martha Annabelle (Keller) Pembleton as well as her precious dogs Sophie, Kenzie, Daisy and Dandy. She always considered them family. She is survived by her devoted husband Darl W. Morgan, her only daughter Shawna A. Morgan (Annie) and her only granddaughter Abigail R. Morgan, all of Mahaffey. Services will be private at her request.

There will be a Celebration of Life at The Lighthouse of Cherry Tree PA on June 28, 2026 at 10:00am. All are welcome. Please honor her vivacious spirit by wearing anything other than black. She would want you to “dress happy”. My Mom would want me to thank each and every one of you who have visited, sent cards, sent casseroles and brought groceries. She would want me to tell you that your prayers were not in vain. She loved and appreciated you all very much. We are all so grateful for the outpouring of support during these very difficult times and we pray that God richly bless you for your giving.
