Attention: Important information and action steps for SLPs and Audiologists in Maryland:

CMS has released the proposed 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule late this afternoon, which includes proposed values for the new speech-language pathology treatment codes that will replace CPT code 92507 beginning January 1, 2027.

CMS's proposal reflects ASHA's recommended code structure and values, providing a strong foundation for the transition to the new codes. The proposal is not final, but it represents a positive outcome at this important stage of the process. ASHA is reviewing the proposal and will share more details tomorrow about the proposed codes, payment values, and what they mean for SLPs.

ASHA will be hosting a live, high-level overview of the proposed codes and payment values this Friday, July 17, with an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and what comes next.

Beyond the new SLP treatment codes, ASHA is reviewing other provisions in the proposed rule that may affect audiologists and SLPs and will provide additional updates in the coming days. Stay tuned!

Attention all early‑career, school‑based SLPs in Maryland!

ASHA is offering a limited number of scholarships to cover full registration for the ASHA Schools Learning Exchange: Empowered Service Delivery for SLPs (one‑day workshop, July 11, 2026, Rockville, MD). Eligible applicants must be ASHA members, be SLPs with ≤5 years school‑based experience, and currently work in a school setting. Apply by June 3 — winners notified the week of June 8.

An important announcement form our STAR (State Advocate for Reimbursement):

The national and state spotlight on fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicaid is intensifying, and that means more audits and more administrative weight on the shoulders of clinicians delivering care. This is showing up across every healthcare setting, schools that bill Medicaid included.

ASHA has been contacted by two Medicaid Fraud Control Units (the arm of the US Department of Justice at the state level that prosecutes Medicaid fraud) about behavior in our profession that has been flagged as fraudulent. The flags include billing performed by assistants, students, or CFs without explicit payer permission, and unbundling of codes.

This is worth our attention not because we expect to be in the wrong, but because the integrity of our documentation and billing is part of how we protect the work. Clean practices protect our clinicians, our families, and the long-term health of our profession.
