Imagine a headache that lasts only seconds but happens 200 times a day. ⚡ Short-lasting Unilateral Neuralgiform Headache Attacks (SUNHA) are the rarest of the Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalalgias. They involve hundreds of "stabs" of pain around the eye throughout the day, usually accompanied by extreme tearing and redness. Because they are so short, they are often misdiagnosed as facial tics or "nerves." Specialized care is the only way to manage these high-frequency attacks.

I see it all the time: a patient "fails" every migraine medication, only to find relief once they start treating their underlying Sleep Apnea. 💨 Using a CPAP or oral appliance ensures your brain gets a steady stream of oxygen all night, preventing the metabolic stress and oxygen dips that lead to morning attacks. If your migraines are most frequent upon waking, your lungs might be the key to your head pain.

Tired of waking up in pain? Schedule a consultation to see if a sleep-based approach is right for you. Link in bio 🔗

“It’s just a bad headache. Can’t you just take an aspirin and power through?” 🤕

If you live with migraines, you’ve likely heard some version of this phrase. Because migraine is an invisible illness, the world around us often struggles to understand its true gravity.

But as a double board-certified neurologist, I see the reality every single day in my clinic.

Migraine is not just a headache. It is a complex, debilitating neurological disease. It is the feeling of a throbbing vice around your temple, sudden nausea, blinding light sensitivity, and the frustrating “brain fog” that lingers for days after the pain finally stops. It steals birthdays, cancels work shifts, and fractures time with family.

You cannot simply “tough out” a neurological flare, and you shouldn’t have to.

This Migraine Awareness Month, my message to you is simple: Stop settling for just “surviving” the attacks.

Medicine has evolved beautifully. From targeted neuro-interventions to cutting-edge preventive pathways, we have tools designed to raise your brain’s pain threshold and give you your life back. If you are reaching for rescue meds multiple days a week, it is a sign that your current strategy needs a clinical upgrade.

You don’t have to navigate this chronic journey alone.

🏥 If you are ready to move from chasing the pain to a proactive, specialized prevention plan, my clinic is here to help. Tap the link in my bio to learn more about our comprehensive neurological evaluations and schedule a consultation.

While you sleep, your brain literally "washes" itself. 🧠 This is called the Glymphatic System—it flushes out metabolic waste and toxins that build up during the day. However, if you have Sleep Apnea, this process is interrupted every time you stop breathing. This "trash buildup" can lower your migraine threshold and leave you feeling "foggy" the next day. Better sleep isn't just about rest; it’s about brain detoxification.

Is your brain getting its nightly "bath"? Schedule a consultation for more tips on optimizing your sleep for brain health.

Did you hit your head and now the room spins every time you roll over in bed? 🌀

You might have BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). A concussion can physically dislodge tiny "crystals" in your inner ear, sending false signals to your brain that you are moving when you aren't. While it feels terrifying, BPPV is often fixable in just one or two clinic visits using specific repositioning maneuvers.

Stop the world from spinning. Call our office today to schedule a comprehensive evaluation! Link in bio 🔗

A headache that starts after a concussion isn't always "just a symptom"—it can become its own condition known as Post-Traumatic Headache (PTH).

PTH often mimics migraine or tension-type headaches, but because it’s triggered by physical trauma (car accidents, falls, etc.), it requires a multifaceted approach. We look at the neck (cervicogenic component), the visual system, and your metabolic health to stop the cycle of daily pain before it becomes chronic.

Don't let a "temporary" injury become a permanent headache. Book your evaluation via the link in our bio. 🔗

What if your headache vanished the moment you laid down? 🛌

Most headaches stay with you whether you’re standing, sitting, or lying down. But a CSF Leak (Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension) plays by different rules.

The Hallmark Sign: A "positional" headache. It feels like a heavy, dull throb while you are upright, but within minutes of lying flat, the pain significantly improves or disappears entirely.

Why is this happening?
Your brain is supposed to "float" in a pressurized bath of cerebrospinal fluid. If there is a tiny tear in the dura (the sac holding that fluid), the pressure drops. When you stand up, gravity pulls the brain downward, tugging on sensitive nerves and blood vessels.

Other "Low Pressure" Signs:
- Muffled Hearing: Like you’re underwater.
- Nausea: Worse when standing.
- Stiff Neck: Often mistaken for tension.

Does your headache have a "favorite position"? Tell us if lying flat helps you in the comments! 👇

Why Your Eyes Hurt After a Concussion

"I feel fine until I look at my computer." 💻 Sound familiar? After a concussion, your eyes and brain often stop "teaming" correctly. This is called Convergence Insufficiency. Your eyes struggle to pull together to focus on near objects, leading to eye strain, double vision, and massive headaches after just a few minutes of screen time. It’s not a problem with your eyesight—it’s a problem with the brain’s coordination.

The good news? Vestibular and vision therapy can "retrain" this connection. Sometimes it even gets better with just a bit of time.

Is it a Migraine or a Cluster Headache? ⏱️ Timing is everything.

While a migraine can last for days and makes you want to lie perfectly still in a dark room, a cluster headache is shorter (15–180 minutes) but incredibly intense. Most people with cluster headaches feel a sense of restlessness or "pacing" during an attack because the pain is so piercing. Because the treatments are vastly different—cluster headaches often respond to high-flow oxygen, while migraines don't—knowing the difference is vital for relief.

Tired of "pacing" through the pain? Tap the link in my bio to see how I can help you manage cluster attacks.

Not Every Sacrifice is Visible. 🕊️

On Memorial Day, we reflect on the cost of freedom. For a vast number of our service members, that cost included their long-term brain health.

Did you know? TBI is considered the "signature injury" of recent conflicts, affecting hundreds of thousands of veterans due to blast exposures and combat-related concussions.

A concussion in the field is more than just a "bell rung." It is a shift in the brain’s chemistry that can impact:

- Processing speed and focus
- Emotional regulation
- Sleep and energy levels

As we celebrate this holiday, let's commit to better understanding the neurological challenges our veterans face. We honor your sacrifice, and we see your strength.
