Once upon a time, they walked into my office with backpacks bigger than they were.

These next weeks many of those same children are carrying them into college dorms.

Parents, you’ll get your babies back for Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break, and summers.

Pediatricians don’t.

One day our little patients quietly become someone else’s “adult patient.” That’s the way it should be… but that doesn’t mean we stop thinking about them.

We celebrate every acceptance letter, every graduation, every dream they chase.

When practices are shortened or canceled because of the heat, it isn’t because coaches are being overprotective. It’s because they’re protecting young athletes and marching band students from a danger we can’t always see.

Here’s a quick look at why Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) matters—and how it helps keep our kids safe.
Beginning this school year, Texas UIL requires schools to use WBGT to guide outdoor athletic and marching band activities. Thank you Texas UIL for helping keep our students safe.
P.S. I studied and organized the information, then used AI as an illustration tool. I did insist on one change: in the last image I asked it to have the marching band member take off her hat and gloves and open her jacket because…well…now you know why. 😊

Three years ago, she drew herself. This year, she drew her mama.

A little girl who first learned she was worth loving has grown into a child who knows how to love others well. Her mama and daddy are clearly doing something very right. 💗
