We're so glad to welcome ShaWunda to the Attuned Psychotherapy team. We believe healing happens in the context of safe, authentic relationships, and we're grateful to have a clinician whose presence reflects those same values. As she continues her Marriage & Family Therapy training, ShaWunda brings years of experience, deep compassion, and a steady, relational approach to supporting individuals and families. If you're looking for a space where you can be met with curiosity, care, and respect, we hope you'll join us in giving her a warm welcome. www.attunedpsychotherapy.org

We have two spots remaining for the 2026 cohort of our Trauma Recovery Process Group. Please contact [email protected] for more information.

For the first several weeks this group begins with a focus on psycho-education and structured skills building. Participants discover how their traumatic experiences continue to affect them in the present. This prepares clients to discuss aspects of their trauma history. The group then transitions to a less structured format and operates like a traditional process group. General goals for this group are to relieve shame, reduce isolation, promote mastery & empowerment, model healthy relationships, integrate traumatic experiences with factors of resiliency, and provide a sense of hope for the future

I recently had another opportunity to share a bit of my journey as a therapist with CanvasRebel, and I’m genuinely grateful for the space to reflect on the work, the growth, and the people who’ve shaped me along the way.

One thing I continue to learn is that transformation often happens gently — through grace, reflection, and the support of others who walk alongside us. So much of this work has been built through community, mentorship, lived experience, ongoing learning, and the courage of the clients who allow me to sit beside them in vulnerable moments. I don’t take that trust lightly.

The interview touches on my path into therapy, what continues to inspire me, and the values that guide the way I show up in this field. More than anything, I hope it reminds people that healing comes through relationships that honor our humanity and individuality.

If you’d like to read it, here it is:

Thank you to everyone who’s been part of my journey so far. I’m still learning every day.

You may have noticed there is a new logo in town. I wanted to share my inspiration for choosing the thistle as a symbol for Attuned Psychotherapy. The thistle has long symbolized resilience and protection. Its prickly exterior mirrors strength and the ability to endure adversity, while its ability to thrive in harsh, rugged landscapes reflects an enduring beauty that flourishes in difficult conditions—mirroring bravery, a refusal to give up, and resilience in the face of hardship. Its sharp leaves and stems serve as natural defenses, reflecting protection and the ability to ward off harm.

Across cultures, the thistle has also been regarded as a symbol of good fortune and is sometimes believed to carry protective, magical qualities. Its symbolism is both rich and practical, uniting beauty with defense.

In essence, the thistle embodies a balance of beauty and bravery, showing how a seemingly humble, prickly plant can be admired not only for its form, but for what it represents: the ways strength and protection often develop together. Much like the people we work with at Attuned Psychotherapy, the thistle reflects how resilience can take shape in difficult conditions, and how protective defenses—though sometimes misunderstood—are deeply rooted in survival, courage, and the capacity to endure. It is such an honor to walk with people as they heal from adversity. I hope our new logo will reflect their courageous survival.

Attuned Psychotherapy will be offering another women’s trauma recovery process group for survivors of relational trauma. Group therapy is a unique opportunity for survivors to participate in mutual healing and growth. Please email [email protected] if you or a client would like to be considered for the upcoming group. Here is a little more information:

Group will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:15-8:30 at our North Raleigh office located at 901 Paverstone Drive, Suite B, Raleigh, NC 27615. Cost of the group is $75 per two hour session. We are not in network with insurance companies but you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for out of network benefits. This process group is for North Carolina residents only and is appropriate for adult women who have experienced any type of relational trauma at any time across the lifespan. Here is a bit about what to expect during group therapy.

The Trauma Recovery Process Group is for clients who:
-Are currently seeing an individual therapist.
-Have done some trauma work in individual and/or group therapy.
-Are currently fairly stable in terms of their symptoms.
-Have developed some positive coping strategies.
-Have already learned general information about trauma and how it affects them.
-Are able to tolerate talking and hearing about traumatic experiences.
-Can commit to weekly attendance.

This group begins with 10-15 weeks of structured skills building to prepare clients for discussing aspects of their trauma history and the ways in which it continues to impact them in the present. The group then transitions to a less structured format and operates like a traditional process group. Clients will be invited to consider strategies that will help them grow in their capacity to cope. It will also provide an opportunity to collaborate with other survivors in service of mutual healing.

General goals for this group are to improve self-understanding and self-compassion, relieve shame, reduce isolation, promote mastery and empowerment, model healthy relationships, integrate traumatic experiences with factors of resiliency, and provide a sense of hope for the future.
