Have you heard of Cyclosporiasis (sigh-klow-spuh-RYE-uh-sis)? Itโs a big word for a stomach bug caused by a tiny parasite. If this germ gets into your child's tummy, it can cause watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, bloating, and loss of appetite.

People get sick by eating food or drinking water contaminated with the parasite.
It usually hitches a ride on fresh fruits and veggiesโlike berries, basil, cilantro, and lettuce.
It does not spread directly from person to person like a cold or flu.

You can't see the parasite, but you can lower your risk with these simple steps:
Use warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before and after preparing food.
Thoroughly rinse all fresh produce under running water before eating, cutting, or cooking.
Scrub firm produce (like melons or cucumbers) with a clean brush, and dry everything with a paper towel.
Thoroughly cooking your veggies kills potential parasites.
