The Client Journey Counseling & Consulting PLLC Helping clients heal from the root causes of their childhood trauma!

What felt intolerable in year one feels “manageable” by year three. That’s your baseline moving somewhere it shouldn’t.

Staying in unhealthy situations and environments doesn’t just cost you the years you’re in it. It resets your nervous system’s definition of normal.

The longer you’re in a dysregulated environment, the more your body adjusts to match it, until constant low grade dread just feels like “this is how I am.”

The situation isn’t going to recalibrate you back. Only distance and healing do that.

So, ask yourself: what did calm feel like before this job, this relationship, etc? Can you still remember it?

💬 If this resonated, comment “culture.” 👇🏽

Two glasses of wine just to feel normal by 7pm??That’s not relaxing; that’s regulating…and not in a good way

Your job doesn’t stay at your job. It follows you into how you talk to your partner, how patient you are with your kids, how much of yourself is left by the time you walk in the door.

Chronic stress doesn’t clock out; it shows up in your sleep, your relationships, your health.

If the people who love you are getting your worst version, and your job is getting the version holding it all together; that’s the real cost.

This week, notice which version of you shows up at home on your hardest work days. Then ask, is that who you want to keep being?

📌 Save this. Send it to someone who needs the reminder.

Most people smile through the meeting, nod at the check in, and say “I’m good” then sit in my office three months later completely unraveled.
Same job. Same paycheck. Different person underneath.

The honesty I’m talking about happens somewhere else first. With yourself. With a therapist. With someone who isn’t your boss. Because the gap between what you perform and what you actually feel doesn’t disappear just because you stay silent about it; it just moves into your body, your sleep, your patience, your next job.

Let me be clear about what I’m not saying: honesty doesn’t mean venting at your manager or torching the relationship that pays your bills.

Honesty isn’t about confronting your workplace. It’s about not lying to yourself about what it’s costing you.

You haven’t missed a deadline. No one at work has noticed a difference. But you have.

You’re more tired. Quicker to snap. Slower to say yes. And if you’re honest, more resentful than you used to be.

So, you run to your list of questions: New job? New field? Just hold out for the promotion or lateral move?

Burnout isn’t a scheduling problem, and it’s not fixed by a long weekend. It’s a mindset problem, rooted in your relationship with work and what you believe happens the moment you stop performing at 100%.

Finish this sentence: “If I slow down, then ___.”

Your answer is the real starting point.

In six months, someone on your team quits and says they found a “new opportunity.” That’s not the real reason; the real reason came out in my office, months before you saw it coming.

They told me their manager only shows up when something’s wrong. That no one’s acknowledged a new idea in over a year. That they’ve been quietly job hunting since spring, hoping you don’t find out first.

None of that shows up in an engagement survey. It shows up in a therapy chair.

Exit interviews aren’t built for truth; they’re built to protect you from liability. By the time you hear “why,” the real answer already left.

I’m Sheneica Hunter-Gibbs, licensed clinical therapist. I train leadership teams to build the safety that gets the truth told first.

They hurt you. They come back. You feel relieved. And that relief feels like love.

That's not love. That's a pattern your nervous system learned before you were old enough to choose differently.

Part 3 is coming. Follow so you don't miss it! 👆🏽

The joke isn't the problem. The fact that it's the only thing keeping you from being truly known by someone; that's the problem!

If you laughed at this and then immediately felt something shift... that wasn't a coincidence. That was recognition.

Save this if it hit home! Someone in your life needs to see it too.

Your nervous system isn’t broken! It’s doing exactly what it learned to do.

When safety gets wired to “predictable” instead of “healthy,” you don’t stay because it’s good for you. You stay because it’s familiar.

Healings starts when you teach your body that calm can be safe too, not just chaos!

Someone being upset is not the same as them being upset at you.

But if your body never learned the difference; you've been apologizing for things that were never yours to carry.

This one is for everyone who shrinks when the room shifts. 💛

“I’m tired” is often code for something much deeper.

A lot of people don’t know how to say:
“I’ve been holding too much for too long.”
“My mind won’t slow down.”
“I don’t feel like myself anymore.”

Healing starts when you stop minimizing what’s really going on and start telling yourself the truth.

If you’re ready to stop carrying it alone, my Unlearn & Return program starts April 20th. DM me UNLEARN for more info.
