With more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Mark Galland is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and minimally invasive shoulder surgery. His areas of expertise include ACL reconstruction, shoulder arthroscopy, sports injury care, knee and joint preservation, and athlete performance medicine.

Dr. Galland’s career in orthopaedics and sports medicine began while serving in the United States Navy at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, where he served as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery. Throughout his career, he has continued his dedication to caring for athletes—from local high school and collegiate programs to professional athletes.

Your ACL plays an important role in knee stability, but that's not all it does.

The BEAR Implant takes a different approach to ACL surgery.

Instead of removing and replacing the damaged ACL with a tendon graft, the implant is positioned between the torn ends of the ligament and combined with a small amount of the patient's own blood. This supports the body's natural healing process.

Over time, the implant is resorbed and replaced with the patient's own cells, collagen, and blood vessels as the ACL heals and remodels.
