Last week, the NCAFP staff went to Wilmington for events and education on Thursday and Friday! We started with the Wilmington Area Family Physicians Social on Thursday night but kept meeting our members on Friday too: the team at Promina Health Direct Primary Care and the residents at the Novant Health Wilmington Family Medicine Residency Program. Thank you to all the NCAFP members who welcomed our team last week!

At the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)'s FUTURE in Kansas City, over 150 NC medical students, residents, faculty, and residency programs joined the national Family Medicine community for three days of education, networking, leadership development, and celebration! From exploring career paths to building relationships with peers and mentors, FUTURE gives students and residents the opportunity to discover where Family Medicine can take them.
FUTURE 2027 may be a year away, but North Carolina medical students do not have to wait to get involved. Through NCAFP, students can connect with Family Medicine mentors, explore leadership and scholarship opportunities, participate in educational programs, and build relationships with peers and residency programs across the state.
Stay connected with NCAFP to make the most of your journey to Family Medicine, and read about North Carolina’s experience at FUTURE:

The summer issue of The NC Family Physician is on its way to all NCAFP members!

It's the prettiest way we get to keep them all informed about what they need to know from NC Family Medicine, the chapter, and much more. That's why this summer issue includes:

- What medical students enjoyed most during their NCAFP summer programs
- Several advocacy recaps, from Raleigh to Washington, DC and beyond (including the state budget)
- The entire program overview of the 2026 Winter Family Physicians Weekend
- And more!

If NCAFP members need to know it, they'll learn it from the NCAFP. This magazine issue is key to that trust!

Just wait until you see what our phenomenal program chairs have planned for you! Register & learn more at www.ncafp.com/...

We have been glad to spotlight much of Dr. Hershey Bell's work these past few years: Dr. Bell is the Founding Dean at the new Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine in Fayetteville! Today, the medical school's first students began their classes.
“For several years, this has been an idea sustained by vision, collaboration and belief,” Dr. Bell said in a recent statement. “To now welcome students transforms that vision into reality.”
Congratulations to Dr. Bell and all the other leaders who have worked to make this new medical school possible. We are glad to count him as an NCAFP member!
