A healthy marriage begins with two people willing to look honestly at themselves.
When something is wrong in a relationship, it’s natural to notice what your spouse could do differently. Their habits. Their reactions. The words they should or shouldn’t have said.
Jesus offers a more challenging starting point: “First take the plank out of your own eye.” — Matthew 7:5
That doesn’t mean ignoring genuine problems in your marriage or accepting unhealthy behavior. It means recognizing that lasting change also requires the courage to examine your own patterns, responses, expectations, and wounds.
Marriage counseling can help both partners ask a more productive question: What can I take responsibility for?
It takes two healthy individuals to build a healthy marriage. Sometimes strengthening the relationship begins with the work each person is willing to do within themselves.
