Hospitals are about more than medical care — they’re also places where comfort, connection and community can make a difference.

ECU Health, Kids Who Give, the Carolina Hurricanes and ECUAthletics teamed up to bring a little more joy to young patients at James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital. Together, they created and donated pediatric hospital gowns featuring Canes and ECU-inspired designs.

The partnership is helping brighten hospital stays and remind young patients that an entire community is cheering them on. 💜🏒🏴‍☠️

For 50 years, ECU Health and the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University have trained the next generation of physicians through Graduate Medical Education (GME).

What began with one Family Medicine Residency program in 1976 has grown to 38 residency and fellowship programs, providing hands-on training while preparing physicians to care for communities across eastern North Carolina.

The impact continues beyond training: 39 GME graduates entered the physician workforce in eastern North Carolina in 2025, helping strengthen access to care across the region.

As ECU Health celebrates five decades of GME, the milestone highlights the lasting connection between medical education, workforce development and the health of communities: https://bit.ly/4yo3VtU
