Today is the final day of National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, but the commitment to protecting your peace doesn't end when the calendar turns to August.

Self care for parents of color isn't about fancy Spa days or ignoring reality.

It’s about the daily, quiet boundaries that protect your mental bandwidth, so you can show up for yourself and your family.

Your weekend permission slip to close out the month:

Say no without explaining: You don't owe anyone a detailed justification for protecting your rest.

Let the domestic perfection go: A messy living room or ordering takeout tonight doesn't mean you're failing, it means you're prioritizing your energy.

Unplug from the noise: Turn off the parenting feeds and give your nervous system a chance to quiet down.

As we draw closer to the end of National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to highlight a side of perinatal mental health that often gets left out of the conversation: The partner experience.

Culturally, fathers and partners of color are under immense pressure to be the silent providers, the strong ones, and the ultimate shock absorbers during major life transitions.

But research shows that postpartum depression and anxiety affect non-birthing partners too, and when one parent is struggling silently, the entire household feels the strain.

Mental health equity means creating space for everyone in the family unit to feel safe asking for support.

3 ways we can shift the culture around partner mental health:

Normalize partner check ins: Asking "How are you holding up with all of this?" instead of only focusing on the baby or the birthing parent.

Break the silent provider myth: Acknowledging that vulnerability and seeking help make you a better partner and parent, not a less capable one.

Offer care for the whole unit: Culturally competent care doesn't stop at maternal health, it supports the entire village wrapping around that new life.

When we prioritize the mental well being of both parents, we create a stronger, more resilient foundation for our children.

Oasis offers therapy, support circles, and guidance designed for the whole family ecosystem.

How are you and your partner holding space for each other this week?

As we head into the final days of National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to leave you with a grounded reminder for the week ahead: Your mental peace doesn't have an expiration date.

For many mothers and families of color, the pressure to hold it all together, balancing work, family, systemic navigation, and cultural expectations, doesn't stop just because a calendar month ends.

Mental health conversations often highlight minority experiences for a few weeks and then move on.

Real healing requires consistent, culturally competent support where you never have to explain your background, justify your boundaries, or tone down your reality just to feel understood.

As you start this week, keep these 3 commitments to yourself:

Unpack the expectations: You don't have to carry the weight of being the unbreakable pillar for everyone around you.

Protect your energy: Boundaries around your time, space, and emotional availability are essential for long term health, not selfish.

Keep reaching out: Seeking a therapist, support circle, or specialist who shares or deeply respects your lived experience is a long term investment in your family's future.

At Oasis, offering safe, affirming, and culturally responsive care is at the core of what we do every single day of the year.

How are you checking in with yourself as this month wraps up?

We want to close out Black Maternal Mental Health Week by reminding everyone Sunday is Parents’ Appreciation Day.

When we talk about appreciating parents, it’s easy to drop generic praise about how resilient, strong, and self sacrificing they are.

But real appreciation isn't just about clapping for someone's ability to survive exhaustion, it’s about actively making their load lighter.

This past week, under the theme Rooted in Legacy, we’ve focused heavily on what it takes for black mothers and families to heal, thrive, and break generational cycles.

True parental appreciation means: Honoring the whole human: Recognizing that parents have their own mental health needs, anxieties, and identity shifts outside of caring for a baby.

Replacing resilience with actual support: Giving parents permission to drop the armor, ask for real help, and set boundaries without feeling guilty.

Building a safer village: Demanding equitable, respectful care so that no parent has to hyper advocate just to be heard or protected during the fourth trimester.

To every mom, dad, and partner navigating the highs and heavy moments of early parenthood, we see you.

Not just for what you do for your family, but for who you are while doing it.

As we head into a new week, remember that taking care of your own mind is the greatest gift you can give your children. 🤍✊🏾✨

Nearly 40% of Black mothers and birthing people experience maternal mental health conditions—yet so many face barriers to getting the care they deserve.

For Black Maternal Mental Health Week (July 19–25), we're shining a light on these disparities and providing education and strategies to support this community.

In a world that constantly expects black women to be superhuman, unbreakable pillars of strength, choosing to pause is a radical act.

Society often praises the strong matrix structure, but pushing through severe exhaustion, anxiety, or trauma without stopping isn't actual strength, it's survival mode.

We want to remind you that true healing requires actual spaces to put down the weight.

You cannot effectively protect your peace or bond with your baby if your own battery is completely depleted.

Today, we invite every black mother and birthing parent in our community to take a step back.

Drop the expectations. Leave the non-essential tasks for later.

Say no to anything that demands your emotional energy today, and give your mind the space to just exist.

Drop a 🤍 in the comments if you're committing to taking a real pause today.

According to data from the Shades of Blue Project, black mothers face postpartum depression at a rate of 40%.

Yet, because of deep rooted systemic barriers, lack of culturally competent care, and cultural stigmas, only about 25% actually seek professional help.

The math doesn't add up, and the gap leaves too many families struggling in isolation.

But here is what we know at Oasis: when we change how we support the mother, we change the trajectory for the entire family.

This isn't just about managing a temporary tough season; it’s about fixing a broken system, so the next generation doesn't have to inherit the same silent struggle.

If you are a black mother or birthing individual navigating the heavy waves of the fourth trimester right now, please know this - your story matters, and your mental peace is worth fighting for.

You don't have to hold it all together on your own.

🌱 Rooted to Rebloom 🌱

I spent an incredible time attending the “Rooted to Rebloom: A Healing Garden for Black Birth, Culture, and Community” conference, beautifully sponsored by Southern Regional AHEC.
Being surrounded by so many amazing experts in the perinatal space was incredibly inspiring, especially as we honor National Minority Mental Health Month.

I also had the privilege of being a vendor at the event! It was an absolute joy connecting with so many wonderful professionals—including pregnancy care managers, social workers, dedicated doulas, nurses, and advocates who are deeply invested in the perinatal health of Black women.

The energy in the room was unmatched! I cannot wait to connect and collaborate with these phenomenal individuals to create a lasting impact in reducing the mortality and morbidity rates for Black mothers and their families. Together, we are planting the seeds for a safer, healthier future. 🖤✨
