A corrective drill for forward shoulder posture using just a floor and a rolled towel👀

Lie down, retract and depress the shoulder blades without extending the neck, then raise the arms overhead in a snow-angel pattern while maintaining that retraction throughout. This recruits the lower, mid, and upper trap sequentially instead of letting the upper trap dominate.

The overhead phase is the hardest, since it demands sustained lower trap control, an area that’s commonly weak even in experienced clinicians.

Clamshells are one of those exercises everyone knows, but almost nobody does correctly😅

The trick is keeping your trunk still and not letting your hips rotate as the leg lifts. Get that right and it’s a great fix for knee pain, runner issues, and squat discomfort.

Thoughts of a Doctor of Physical Therapist…

Remember… it’s not a cup… it’s Rotator Cuff.

One of our greatest fears as an athlete is to rupture your Achilles tendon. 😮

Just stretching the Achilles tendon is not going to prevent an Achilles tendon injury or rupture… you have to strengthen and load that tendon along with the associated muscles! 💪

Tendons need progressive strengthening and loading over time… this results in greater resilience to injury!

Dry Needling is an excellent method to reduce spasticity in muscles and also send important neurological signals to muscles to “wake them up.” 🎉

This is the perfect “reset” to a compromised neurological system following an injury. The next phase is to “reinforce” that reset with prescribed exercise!

Yes… you can use lasers for vestibular rehabilitation! Many people suffer from various forms of vertigo. This is just one method of re-training the ocular motor reflex to decrease the incidence of dizziness with eye movement!

✌️Part 2 of the Turkish Getup progression. The goal now is to utilize a kettlebell.

✊The challenge now is that the kettlebell has to be held and balanced bell up ⬆️. The grip needs to be tight throughout the movement. The kettlebell will fall to the wrist is the grip fails.

👍Start the movement with a light kettlebell. Progression of weight is slow and smooth- but it is a phenomenal way of strengthening the entire movement system!

🤲This is a continuation of the same manual therapy session for the patient with pain with reaching across the body (adduction) and performing overhead activities.

☝️First we cleared the anterior shoulder restriction by releasing his pectoralis major.

👍In this video we continue to address tissue restrictions in the posterior shoulder- specifically in the infraspinatus muscle.

💪 This is a called fascial spiraling along with a sweeping technique while the patient is actively moving the shoulder into the painful movement pattern.

👏This helped clear up the remaining tissue restriction following shoulder surgery and helped stimulate blood flow to the musculature not passively but actively.

👉After this particular posterior shoulder reset, we move to the inferior shoulder - our next video will show one of the many techniques we use to reduce those restrictions so we can help reduce the pinching with the overhead activities.
