Cholestasis of pregnancy is a liver condition that most commonly develops during the third trimester, though it can occasionally occur during the second trimester.

Symptoms may include intense itching, especially on the hands and feet, jaundice, pale-colored stools, and extreme fatigue. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your care provider as soon as possible. They will likely order blood tests to check your bile acid levels and evaluate your liver function.

If you are diagnosed with cholestasis, your provider may recommend additional monitoring and discuss the safest timing for birth, which often includes induction around 37 weeks.

After birth, your provider may also recommend follow-up lab work to ensure your liver function has returned to normal.

Remember, your doula can be a valuable source of support, information, and guidance if you have questions or are experiencing symptoms you're unsure about💙
