88yo male. Who is letting the wb right away?

68-year-old gentleman with a history of a tibial nonunion that required multiple surgeries to fix. Patient now needs a total knee and wants to avoid taking out tibial hardware at all costs. He was told by his trauma surgeon that "the nail won't be in the way." What are you doing for him?

Because the patient was fairly adamant about leaving the rod in, I used a diamond saw to cut the keel down. I did attempt to punch the keel without making any alteration and the punch was clearly hitting the rod. Preoperative templating was also suggesting that the rod was going to be in the way. I'm limiting his weight bearing postoperatively until he gets some ingrowth because I'm worried about the sheer stresses across the interface.
