Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, we’re reminded of the importance of checking in, listening with care, and making space for conversations that can sometimes feel difficult to start.

This year’s World Health Organization campaign, “Changing the Narrative on Su***de,” calls on us to Start the Conversation and create space for honest, compassionate conversations, challenge stigma, and listen with care.

Changing the narrative also means building communities where mental health is valued, support is easier to find, and people can access the care they need, when they need it.

If you or someone you know is struggling:
💬 Crisis Text Line
Text VT to 741741 for free, confidential support available 24/7.

📞 National Su***de Prevention Lifeline
Call or text 988 for immediate assistance.

💖 Local Community Support
The Clara Martin Center provides emergency services to all individuals, regardless of age, 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Call 800-639-6360.

Together, we can create a community where reaching out is welcomed and asking for help feels a little easier.

Know a Gifford team member who deserves to be recognized? 🌟

Every day at Gifford, extraordinary moments happen. A nurse stays late to comfort a patient. A provider takes the extra time to explain a diagnosis. A colleague steps in without being asked. A member of our non-clinical team works behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.

These moments matter. And they deserve to be celebrated.

Help us shine a spotlight on the people who go above and beyond through one of our recognition awards:

🌼 DAISY Award – Nursing recognition
🐝 HIVE Award – Provider recognition
🐝 BEE Award – Clinical employee recognition
🐝 BEE Award – Non-clinical employee recognition

Anyone can nominate! Patients, families, coworkers, leaders, and peers can all share a story. Take a moment to recognize someone who makes Gifford exceptional.

Submit your nomination at the link in our comments below. Nominations close September 14 for our next awards ceremony.

SAVE THE DATE: AUGUST 20 & 21, 2027! 🧡

This year’s 21st annual Gifford Last Mile Ride brought 732 people together and raised more than $170,000 to support Gifford patients and families receiving end-of-life care.

As Tayo Kirchhof, Gifford’s Senior Director of Development and Community Engagement, shared, “This event is such a powerful example of what happens when a community shows up for one another.”

To everyone who ran, walked, rode, volunteered, sponsored, donated or helped make the weekend possible: thank you. Your generosity has helped the Last Mile raise nearly $2 million over 21 years!

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to David Turro Jr., PA-C, MS, who has joined our Orthopedics team! 👋

Turro brings nearly a decade of orthopedic care experience across outpatient clinics, hospitals, operating rooms and rural communities. He works with patients of all ages and activity levels, helping them understand their condition and choose a treatment plan aligned with what matters most to them, whether that means returning to a sport, getting back on a bike or ski slope, or moving more comfortably through daily life.

A Rutland native, Turro has returned to Vermont with his family, bringing his experience and passion for orthopedic care closer to home.

We’re excited to welcome him to Gifford and our community!
