Regardless of how and why the screwworm got here, it is being taken seriously at Hoofstock Genetics. We have been discussing the prevention and treatment options with our veterinary consultant Dr Dustin Hollister. We will be implementing preventative measures to ensure our facility maintains the lowest risk possible and we will monitor all boarded and incoming animals to ensure swift and effective treatment if symptoms arise.

There are many tools in the toolkit for preventing and treating New World screwworm (NWS). The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized and conditionally approved drugs available for NWS infestation and prevention. Animal owners and livestock producers are advised to contact their veterinarian to receive direction on the appropriate product for their animals. We were blessed with a good rain last night, and it sure was a welcome sight. The cows are looking good, the grass is soaking it up, and life is being enjoyed at Hoofstock Genetics. Thankful for the rain and the many blessings that come with it.

Big day out at Wilks Ranches last week putting in fresh IVF embryos into a great set of recipient cows.

There’s nothing better than working with quality donors and solid recip cows to stack the odds in your favor. Fresh IVF embryos give you the best possible opportunity for strong conception rates and top-end calves on the ground.

We appreciate the opportunity to be part of the program and look forward to seeing these matings hit the ground.

If you’re thinking about flushing donors or setting up a recip program, reach out — we’d love to help get you scheduled.
