Today was another good day of shooting with my son and brother Jon. I ran them through some drills and I got some shots off, too.

I was out with a client today. Randy came by last month and went through my Fi****ms Familiarization Course. That course covers fi****ms safety, South Dakota self-defense laws, self-defense scenarios, and dry-fire exercises to provide a basis for pistol grips, stance, and marksmanship.

Today I arrayed a couple steel targets and a cardboard one and put Randy through live-fire drills with single and multiple shot strings from three to fifteen yards. It was a good day and he got better as the range time progressed with his Springfield Hellcat 9mm.

The steel targets require shooters to be at 10 yards away to avoid shrapnel. The dimensions of the plates represent center mass on a would-be assailant. The sound they make when a bullet impacts them is awesome and instant feedback of a good shot. When a shooter misses, the silence is deafening. The steel plates are a great tool to sharpen skills.

High Plains Shooting School helped another good citizen today. It was a safe, low pressure experience to highlight his strengths and weaknesses with his new pistol.🇺🇸

I had a chance to check out the shooting range north of Rapid City and it was legitimately awesome. I acquired a new 9mm and test fired it along with a couple of others in my collection.

The Pete Lien & Sons GFP range is easy to access and free of charge in their pistol and rifle bays. You generally self-monitor but they have roving range officers and cameras observing the attendees. It was worth the trip.

As always, High Plains Shooting School is all about civilian fi****ms safety and will teach you some skills to be a quietly proficient carrier and self-defender. 🇺🇸

Hey, just checking in and letting you know the school is open and ready to help you. The outdoor live fire training is subject to the weather and it’s kind of shutting us down. However, I still run my weapons familiarization and safety courses indoors so please holler if you have any questions or want to set up some training. Take care of yourselves and stay warm. 🇺🇸
