Yesterday we hosted our annual cruising for dad car show. Residents loved it! Thanks to Carina, Megan, and the rest of our team for organizing and putting on the event, and thank you so much to everyone who brought their cars. You made a memorable day for our residents and their families.

While Memorial Day isn't a celebration for us as it's a time to remember those who sacrificed everything for us, I do so much love the flag display this weekend brings. WE try to maintain the display throughout the summer.

We are starting to pull our website into the new century. We’ve had some good feedback recently on it, so I didn’t want to change to dramatically.

New additions are: added a dining page so families can see what the weeks menu for specials looks like and see what ala carte menu items are available. This updates in real time.

Added live activities calendars to the calendars page with the ability to download a monthly calendar.pdf. Also updates in real time.
Added to the amenities page to more properly identify our amenities.

Coming soon will be a family access section where families and POAs will be able to see resident specific data about their resident including but not limited to: recent weights and vitals, meal intake (we are one of the only assisted living facilities in sd that even capture that), what meal items your loved one ordered, what activities your loved one participated in, and various medication related information and more.

Please don’t hate me for the stock photos in some areas. I wanted to get placeholders in and for the first time ever I plopped a half dozen random images into the site. Prior to today every single picture on out site was of our facility, our staff, and our residents. I hope to have that back in place by Wednesday. Many of our competitors have almost no pictures of their actual facility on their website so we pride ourselves in our website showing our beautiful building and the wonderful people in it.
I needed to put the site live to test and just decided to leave it that way rather than going back and forth.
If someone sees any glitches, please feel free to harass me. The site was rebuilt by me personally, so the errors (if any) are mine.

Hi everyone,
It’s been a bit since we had an informative post, and just overhearing a phone call Kelli took from a family, I felt the need to make one.

The just of the phone call was that “dad” sits at the table waiting for sometimes 2-1/2 hours for his lunch”.
Kelli was a bit taken aback for a moment, but then looked over at her monitor, and said “it’s 9:55am and he’s sitting there now”.

What’s happening…. We want residents to be in the dining rooms. We have activities and socialization there. Our goal is to have residents “hang out” and enjoy their time.

The problem is that our kitchen is effectively closed between meal times. They can and do whip up short order items for residents when asked between meal times, but if you come for lunch they aren’t considered open until 11:30. Sometimes our servers or care staff will take orders earlier to help speed things up, but the kitchen won’t start plating until meal time. You can’t count the hour and a half a resident chats before the kitchen opens as wait time for a meal.

With our system we can see each and every item a resident (or guest, or staff) ordered, and for this gentleman, his ticket time had never been over 25 minutes and averages 14 min.
Another factor is that there are usually more than 30 residents in the dining room the second the kitchen opens so it’s not dissimilar to a bus pulling up to Perkins. Our team does a great job at getting the food out. We just have to manage the expectation on timing.
The meal times are set to keep us in compliance with DOH rules, so we can’t change them too much without causing issues on that end.

Residents trip to the circus last Friday
