đź’¦ Drowning is one of the leading causes of injury-related death in young children-but many drowning incidents are preventable.

Prevention doesn’t rely on a single strategy. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using multiple layers of protection:

✅ Constant, undistracted supervision (“water watchers”)
âś… Four-sided pool fencing with self-closing, self-latching gates
âś… Swim lessons when developmentally appropriate
âś… CPR training for caregivers
âś… Properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets when needed
âś… Removing water hazards around the home

Remember: drowning is often silent and can happen in seconds. Flotation devices, puddle jumpers, and lifeguards do not replace active adult supervision.

As summer begins, take a few minutes to review your water safety plan and share these tips with family members, babysitters, and caregivers. Working together, we can help keep children safe around water all season long. đź’™

Need your child seen for a simple sick visit? Somerset Pediatric Group offers walk-in hours for established patients with brief recent onset concerns like fever, sore throat, ear pain, pink eye, mild cold symptoms, or minor injuries.

To help us provide the best care possible for every patient, walk-in visits are intended for one simple/new concern only. Chronic or more complex concerns are best scheduled as regular appointments so we can dedicate the time needed to fully address them.

Please refer to this post and visit our website for current walk-in times and participating office locations!

Tick season is here 🕷️🌿

Living in New Jersey, tick bites are something many families will encounter but the good news is that most tick bites do NOT lead to Lyme disease.

In this post we’re reviewing:
• How to help prevent tick bites
• Where to check for ticks
• Proper tick removal
• What symptoms to watch for after a bite
• When antibiotics or testing may be needed
• When to schedule an appointment

One of the best things you can do? Daily tick checks-especially after outdoor play, hiking, sports, camp, or time in grassy or wooded areas.

Remember:
âś” Prompt tick removal lowers Lyme disease risk
âś” Most tick bites do not require antibiotics
âś” Early Lyme disease is very treatable

As always, if your child develops a rash, fever, fatigue, joint pain, or you’re unsure what to do after a tick bite, please give our office a call - we’re happy to help.

Spring is here… and so are the sniffles, sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion 🤧🌼

Seasonal allergies can make this beautiful time of year uncomfortable for kids -but there are ways to help them feel better and still enjoy the outdoors!

In this video we’re covering:
• Common allergy symptoms
• When it may be allergies vs. a cold
• Helpful environmental measures
• Over-the-counter options including antihistamines, nasal sprays, saline sprays, and allergy eye drops
• When it’s time to schedule a visit

Remember, seasonal allergies are uncommon in children under 2 years old, so persistent congestion/runny nose in younger children may be something else and should be evaluated if you’re concerned.

As always, if you’re unsure what’s going on with your child or symptoms are not improving, we’re here to help 💚
