We used a fun treat to work on isolating tongue movements from lip movements when practicing the /l/ sound.

Using a speech generating device during natural play allowed for communication of wants, increased comprehension of vocabulary, pretend play using verbs, and understanding what making choices is.

On July 1, 2025, after 10 years of providing speech therapy services for Richland Parish and the surrounding areas, I was able to open Strides. In a year, I have learned good and bad, had unexpected obstacles, added occupational therapy with two great team members, met many more members of our community, and treated both established and new patients who have become so important to our clinic.

I want to say thank you to the physicians and staff who have supported us through change and growth. Thank you to all the families that have supported us and made Strides what it is. Each one of our patients and his or her family teach us more and make us better with each obstacle and with each win. I consider this opportunity a huge blessing. I’m excited to continue growing personally and as a business and to see what God has in store for our future!

Participation in a news broadcast is a meaningful example of the progress that can be achieved through the combined efforts of dedicated family support, consistent therapeutic intervention, and the encouragement of unique interests.

During the news segment, Jey confidently discussed his toy collection, engaged in reciprocal conversation, and maintained periods of appropriate eye contact. His ability to share information about a topic of high interest not only highlighted his communication skills but also demonstrated increased confidence and social engagement.

This experience illustrates the importance of recognizing and nurturing an individual’s strengths and interests. By building upon his passion, providing consistent support, and fostering opportunities for authentic communication, his family, educators, and therapy teams helped create an environment where Jey could successfully express himself and participate in a meaningful social experience that may have once seemed out of reach.

We are swinging into the weekend!

Last week, this kiddo took advantage of the sun and sensory play to encourage attention to the speaker, use and comprehension of stop and go, and improved eye contact during movement and preferred activities.

Our circus week was a hit! Targets included directions, colors, motor skills, requesting, labeling, identifying letters, attention to task, reading comprehension, etc, etc, etc!
