Whether you’re taking a short nature walk or a full-day hike, your feet do a lot of the work. A little prep can help prevent blisters, soreness, and injuries along the way.

Hiking foot care tips:
• Wear supportive, well-fitting hiking shoes or sneakers
• Choose moisture-wicking socks to help prevent blisters
• Keep toenails trimmed to reduce pressure and irritation
• Break in new shoes before a long hike
• Bring blister pads or moleskin just in case
• Stretch your feet and calves before and after your hike
• Stay hydrated! Your whole body, including your feet, will thank you

🦶 Achilles Tendinitis: Don’t Ignore That Heel Pain!

Your Achilles tendon is the strong band of tissue connecting your calf muscles to your heel bone. When it becomes irritated or inflamed, you may experience Achilles tendinitis.

🚩 Common symptoms include:
• Pain or stiffness along the back of the ankle or heel
• Pain that is worse with activity
• Morning stiffness or soreness
• Swelling or tenderness around the tendon
• Pain that gradually gets worse over time

🏃 What can contribute to Achilles tendinitis?
• Increasing activity too quickly
• Running, jumping, or repetitive impact
• Tight calf muscles
• Improper or worn-out footwear
• Changes in your activity level

💡 The good news: Achilles tendinitis can often be treated with conservative measures, especially when addressed early. Rest, activity modification, stretching, supportive footwear, and other treatments may help depending on the cause and severity.

The Town of Reading is completing road improvements in the downtown area, including portions of Haven Street, which may cause temporary traffic delays or changes to normal traffic patterns.

The good news: Our office remains OPEN, and patient access is being maintained throughout the construction.

🅿️ Parking is still available:
• In the parking lot behind our building.
• Along Haven Street. If barriers are in place, simply let the construction crew know you’re visiting a local business, and they can direct you through so you can access available parking.
