What exactly does the ADOS measure? đź’
The ADOS-2 is one of the most widely used tools in autism evaluations because it allows clinicians to directly observe social communication, interaction, and behaviors associated with autism in a structured, standardized way.
The assessment provides valuable information, including an algorithm score, comparison (severity) score, and detailed clinical observations, but it is only one piece of a comprehensive evaluation. A diagnosis is made by integrating ADOS results with developmental history, caregiver input, interviews, rating scales, and clinical expertise.
Understanding what the ADOS measures can help families feel more informed and confident throughout the evaluation process.
