Joseph Virgil “Joe” Clark, age 66, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away, Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Society. Joe was born April 29, 1960, in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Gladys (Page) Clark. He graduated from Red Oak Community High School in the class of 1979 and served in the United States Army. He returned to Red Oak and worked many years at O’Neal Electric, Hy-Vee, and retired from the Red Oak Greenhouse. Joe was united in marriage to Deanna Wolfe on October 24, 1987, at Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman, Iowa. Two children were born to this union: Adam and Sarah. They made their home in Red Oak. Joe loved gardening, riding his motorcycle, cooking, fixing computers, and was a self-taught carpenter. Joe was a “Jack” of all trades. As a young boy, he received an award from the Iowa Governor and the U.S. President for saving his grandmother’s life during a flood in Red Oak.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a nephew: Tyler Rutherford. Survivors include his children: Adam Clark of Gilmore City, IA and Sarah Schoff and husband Jacob of Story City, IA; grandchildren: Oliver Schoff and Graham Schoff; brother: Curtis Clark and wife Angie of Guthrie Center, IA; sister: Sheryl Clark of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held at LeRette Funeral Chapel from 9 AM until going to the cemetery in procession for the graveside on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.

William Charles “Bill” Bolls, age 81, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Corning Specialty Care in Corning, Iowa. Bill was born February 20, 1945, in Corpus Christi, Texas, the son of Charles and Mamie (Uttinger) Bolls. He graduated from high school in Amarillo, Texas, and continued his education in the trades working in the fire protection industry installing sprinkler systems for many years. Bill moved to California at a young age and was united in marriage to Nancy Gardner in 1981 in California. Over the years, Bill worked for many fire protection companies and retired from Allied Fire moving to Red Oak, Iowa, in 2018.

Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife: Nancy Bolls of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Stacey Steele and husband Patrick of Fresno, CA; Brenda Jackson and husband John of Fresno, CA; Logan Hindle of Newark, OH; and Justin Bolls of Modesto, CA ; grandchildren: Ridge, Mimi, Tyler,Blake, Robbie, Simon, Seyed, Briar, and Gavin; 2 great grandchildren; sister: Loretta Putnam of Barstow, CA; sisters-in-law: Sue Pimental of Castro Valley, CA and Georgianna Murphy of Linden, CA; brothers-in-law: Tom Gardner and wife Jaydene of Red Oak, IA and Gustave Gardner and wife Teresa of Paradise, CA; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date in California.

Sharon Kay (Abbott) Young, age 80, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Jennie Edmundson hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Sharon was born October 6, 1945, in Alameda, California, the daughter of James and Geneva (Roof) Abbott. She was the second child of four children. Sharon grew up and lived most of her life in the Bay area of California. She met her future husband, Joel Young, while working together at Owens-Illinois glass factory They were united in life on March 14, 1969. One child was born to this union, Heather. Sharon worked as a legal secretary until the family moved to Red Oak, Iowa, in 1998, where she worked as a dispatcher for the Red Oak Police Department, CDS for a few years, and Mediacom until she retired. She loved shopping and quilting….and especially loved shopping for fabric for quilting. She enjoyed crafting, quilting, going to craft shows, and spending time with her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Sheila Chappell. Survivors include her husband: Joel Young of Red Oak; daughter and son-in-law: Heather and Fred Hall of Red Oak; step-children: Michael Young (Susan) of Carson, Nevada, and Jamie Butrick (Tim) of Wisconsin; grandchildren: Samantha Hansen of Red Oak; Amber Mackeprang (Joshua) of Fairbury Nebraska; Joshua Hansen (Kaylee) of Red Oak; Jordan Zenor (fiancé John Finley) of Red Oak; and Emily Hall of Red Oak; step-grandchildren: Austin Hall (Gabby) of Denison, Iowa; Kara Taulborg of Denison, Iowa; Amanda Stephens (Cole) of Dow City, Iowa; great grandchildren: Brenden, Zachary, Elizabeth, Bella, Corwin, Emmett, Kennedy, Calvin, Dennis, Anastasia, Xavier, Alize, Amaree, Amina, Emmet, and Avery; brothers: Dean Abbott (Lisa) of Clarkston, Washington and Neil Abbott (Kathy McNeese) of Burlington Junction, Missouri; nieces: Carissa Podesta (Tom) of San Juan Capistrano, California and Andrea Abbott (Jeff Padgett) of Modesto California, nephew: Arron Abbott of Modesto California; and many other relatives and friends.

Tammy Renee Cerven, age 62, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at her home. Tammy was born October 14, 1963, in Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Juanita “Bonnie” (Helton) Shaver. She was raised in Red Oak where she lived all her life. Over the years, she worked at Red Oak Greenhouse and Dollar General in Red Oak. Tammy made her home with her companion of forty years, Mike Liford.

Preceding her in death were her parents; son: Brent; and siblings: Jerry, Terry, and Rick Shaver. Survivors include her companion: Mike Liford of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Brian Shaver of Red Oak, IA; Bill Gillespie (Jessica) of Red Oak, IA, Shannon Heuer (James) of Villisca, IA; Paige Nash (Devin) of Omaha, NE; and Sarah Reafleng and husband Bobby of Oakland, IA; step-daughters: Elberta Rogers (Justin) and Annie Mae Clark; grandchildren: Connor Shaver; Taylor Ashby; Kyler Eggleston; Sylas Heuer; Kailynn Frazee; Ashlynn Reafleng (Dillon), Riley Reafleng; Dailon Reafleng; Jack and Sadie Rogers; and Cayden Gillespie (Stephanie); many great grandchildren; siblings: Chris Norris and husband Mike, Patsy Williams, Tim Shaver, and Wendi Latus and husband Rob all of Red Oak; and many other relatives and friends.

Ruth “Darlene” Carlstedt, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa formerly Emerson, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Red Oak Rehab and Care Center. Darlene was born June 7, 1934, in Griswold, Iowa, the daughter of Newberry “Newt” and Thelma (Blaney) Wright. She was raised near Carson, Iowa, graduating from Carson High School in 1951. She moved to Omaha where she worked as a secretary and she met her future husband, Bernard Carlstedt. They were united in marriage, and three children were born to this union: Erik, Anna, and Jane. The family lived in many different places throughout their marriage while Bernard was in the military. Darlene lived for many years in Emerson, Iowa, before moving to Red Oak. She worked for Thos. D. Murphy Co., the Emerson Café, K-Mart where she retired, and later CDS. Her hobbies included knitting, quilting, crocheting, doing word search puzzles, playing BINGO, and in her younger years enjoyed bowling. Darlene was a huge Elvis Presley fan and a John Wayne fan. She also had a fascination with penguins.

Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include her children: Erik Carlstedt and wife Ruth of Orange County, CA; Anna Peterson of Bellevue, NE; and Jane Ball and husband Alan of Shelby, IA; grandchildren: Ruth Aptaker and husband Matthew of California; Nick Carlstedt and wife Brittany of California; John Carlstedt of California; Taylor Peterson of Bellevue, NE; and Thylin Carlstedt and wife Reese of Minneapolis, MN; great grandchildren: Miles, Chase, and Robbie Aptaker; Olive, Frank, and Bo Carlstedt; and Xitlalli Garcia; brother: Marion Wright and wife Donna of Oakland, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held from 10 AM until 11 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Family and friends will process to the Emerson Cemetery at 11 AM for a graveside service.

Eldora Ann McClintock, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026, at her home. Eldora was born January 19, 1933, in Montgomery County, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Ruth (Hutchison) Campbell. She lived most of her life in Red Oak, Iowa. She worked for Thos. D. Murphy Co. for many years and was united in marriage to Raymond Kimpson in August of 1952 in Missouri. Eldora then spent her time raising her family. She later was united in marriage to Jimmie Dean McClintock in 1966 in Jackson, Minnesota. They made their home in Red Oak. Eldora loved nature and being outdoors. She loved animals and always fed the birds and squirrels.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Jimmie in 1997; brother: Donald Campbell; and son: Rickie Kimpson. Survivors include her son: Michael Kimpson and wife Terri of Griswold, IA; grandchildren: Damian Kimpson (Sarah) of Omaha, NE; Rachel Fussell (David) of Red Oak, IA; Nicole Kimpson of Red Oak, IA; Tia Kimpson (Michael Kunze) of Atlantic, IA; and Zac Kimpson (Stephanie Meyer) of Griswold, IA; many great grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.

Jan Philby was born on January 26, 1936, and passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home in Corrales, New Mexico.

Jan was an exceptional athlete and was nominated for the Nebraska “Athlete of the Year” in 1954. This led him to the South Omaha High School Hall of Fame induction in 2003. He was named as “Athlete of the Year” at Dana College in 1955 and 1956 and later inducted in to the Dana College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979.

Jan was a teacher and football coach at Red Oak High School and was inducted into the Red Oak High School Hall of Fame in 1992.

Jan left a legacy of love for hunting and fishing in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He taught the boys more in the duck blind than they ever learned in school. Above all, Jan loved his family, whether he was hunting, fishing, or playing cards. He enjoyed the simple time spent with family the most. His final Hall of Fame induction occurred on July 13th, where his seven children will remember him by his highest honor, being a father. His memory will live on through touching stories from family and friends.

An invitation for all that want to celebrate his life will be announced at a later time.

Robert Dale “Bob” Hart, age 67, of Stanton, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026, at his home. Bob was born July 5, 1959, in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Ronald and Tressie (Patton) Hart. The family lived in many different places throughout the years. Bob graduated from the Rock Port High School in 1977 and then the family moved To Red Oak, Iowa. Bob worked in the tree trimming business, worked for Pella in Shenandoah, the Farmers Mercantile, Johnson Controls and Parker Hannifin in Red Oak. He was united in marriage to Leslie Mertes on April 21, 2021. They made their home near Stanton, Iowa. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and having lots of fun.

Preceding him in death were his parents; Survivors include his wife: Leslie Hart of Stanton, Iowa; sons: Kyle Elwood and fiancé Carrie Daugherty of Cumberland, IA and Seth Hart and fiancé Ashley Lewis of Red Oak, IA; step-sons: Trevor Mertes of Coin, IA and Tyler Bears of Australia; grandchildren: Easton Elwood of Cumberland, IA; Melody Hart of Red Oak, IA; and Charlie, Jonathan, and Avery Mertes of Coin, IA; brother: Gary Hart and wife Joanne York of Bentonville, AR and Angie McArdle of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law: Todd Mertes of Brownsville, NE; sister-in-law: Carla Cross of Nebraska City, NE; and many other relatives and friends.

Axel Enoch Larson, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday July 14, 2026, at Accura Healthcare of Stanton, Iowa. Axel was born August 7, 1935, in Pine River, Minnesota, the son of Clarence Alexander and Inice Daisy (Crist) Larson. He grew up in Minnesota and southwest, Iowa, graduating in the class of 1954 at Stennett High School. He proudly served in the Army before he was united in marriage to Bette Gustafson on March 6, 1960, in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived on their current farm for the past 64 years. They raised corn, beans, hay, hogs, cattle, and chickens. Axel’s passion was the farm. He was a longtime member of the Stratton United Methodist Church where he served on the board. Axel was also a member of Farm Bureau, served on the Farmer’s Mercantile board, Pork Producers, and Mills Montgomery County Cattleman. The Larsons were honored as the “Farm Family of the Week” on WOWT Channel 6 and later recognized in the 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair.

Preceding him in death were his parents; grandchildren: Stephanie Frost and Justin Larson; siblings: Darwin Larson (Pat); Judy McFarland (Bill); Carl Larson; and Lloyd Larson; brother-in-law: Mike Gustafson; and sister-in-law: Connie Kinser.
