Borrowed Childhood is my story.
I was the oldest child, and I grew up early because my mom was a single mother after she and Daddy divorced, doing everything she could to survive and raise us. I stepped into responsibility before I was ready, helping raise my siblings and carrying adult worries as a child.

That upbringing shaped how I loved for a long time. I overgave, overfunctioned, and attracted narcissists—not because I was weak, but because being needed once felt familiar.
But I’ve healed.

I’ve learned boundaries. I choose peace. I receive love without earning it. I no longer carry what isn’t mine to hold.

This chapter isn’t about pain—it’s about growth, clarity, and choosing myself. 💛🎶

I journaled this poem years ago, during a time when I was divorced again, raising three children on my own, and struggling to find my footing. I had lost everything—my car, my home—and found myself back in Texas, starting over. I didn’t know where to turn. I was tired, disappointed, and overwhelmed by everything that wasn’t working in my life.

I didn’t have the answers, so I cried out to God, “What do I do?”

In that moment, I heard a still voice say, “I got you—just trust Me.”

When I found this poem again, I turned it into a song. What came from a broken place is now meant to encourage someone else. I’m not sharing this because I have it all figured out—I’m sharing it because I am a witness that God is real, and He will bring you through whatever storm you’re facing. - Sheila

Why do narcissists try to “break” you?

I'm going to say something brutally honest and you won't like it, so let me apologise before hand. Bear in mind, I'm speaking from how narcissists view you.

If you're in a relationship with a natcissist, chances are, you're already “broken” before you met them. What I mean by “briken is; you have unaddressed issue(s) that you're unaware of, more likely than not, it stemmed from your past.

Narcissists can spot people like this from miles away. They see human relationship as the relationship between the superior and inferior. They are the superior and you are the inferior.

If we were in the animal kingdom, you can say that narcissists are predators. Predators never prey on species that are equal or superior than them. they prey on the weaker and more vulnerable species. Mind you, predators don't hunt for sport or fun, they hunt for survival. If you feel that you've been preyed on by natcissists, chances are, it's because you are deemed to have something that is necessary for their survival and that you're on the lower level of the ecological hierarchy.

What to do if you have been a prey of a narcissist? Get help. You need to be aware of what might be your issue and addressed it. That's the only way you can break free from the narcissist physical and emotional grip.

“We repeat what we don't repair”.
