Our continued policy, in alignment with our laboratory procedures with best practices for clinical studies, all equine submissions for interpretation of results must include a licensed veterinarian for submission on the Equine Submission and Consultation form. To ensure appropriate case oversight, interpretation of results, and continuity of patient care, we continue to require that all submissions submitted through a veterinarian are signed and dated. The report will be issued to the submitting veterinarian associated with the case.

Direct submission of equine samples for the proof-of-concept clinical studies without an associated veterinarian will be accepted using the Owners Submission Form. These results will be reported without interpretation of the results specific to a patient. We include a link to veterinarians interested in new cases and involved in our clinical trials.

This is not a change in policy and is in line with our goal to identify cases that may benefit from our clincal field studies. These studies are key to licensing treatment for rare equine diseases.

Our testing protocol allows the veterinarian to select one test or several, using a serum (or CSF) sample. The tests are disease specific, combinations of tests are useful to select the proper treatment. Samples are held for 6 months, keeping your testing options open. Our trained staff is available...

The post by AM says "decoquinate is a cidal medication, which means it actually KILLS the epm and can totally eridicate all live Protozoa within your horse's system."

Let's hope not! Protozoa in the equine gut is very important. The best method to restore the gut biome is the medical procedure transfaunation. Anyway, the post highlights her basic misunderstanding...EPM, (the post says the epm) is a disease, not an organism.

Another misconception was that EPM was caused by S. fayeri. Not so! If you are curious about S. fayeri in horses read the newest post on the Publications page at Pathogenes. A clue on why the people in TN think there is so much EPM...could be SF!! I explain why.

Chapter Nine of Natures Chamber of secrets reveales that the quest for an EPM diagnostic protein was elusive. The science was evolving but lagged behind the desire for an EPM diagnositic. Hints on the difference between immunogenicity and pathogenicity are revealed in the literature. I posted Chapter Nine in the Flip Book on the Publications page for you.
