Michigan is still the hardest hit state of reported Cyclospora cases. While there are signs that nationally new cases are slow declining, it hasn't fully ended.
MedCare Urgent Care continues to be at the forefront of helping our commnity through this. Here's what you need to know about the outbreak and how we are helping:
👉What it is: a single-cell parasite that infects the intestines and causes diarrhea. People get it by eating food or drinking water contaminated with the parasite. In the U.S., outbreaks are frequently linked to raw, imported produce like cilantro, basil, and fresh berries.
👉The main symptom: ongoing, watery diarrhea. Because it can last a while, it also dehydrates the body quickly.
Here's what you need to do if you suspect your ill:
✅Get tested at any MedCare Urgent Care location. If you are having symptoms, DO NOT WAIT! We have partnered with a local lab to offer rapid turnover testing for this parasite. With proper diagnosis and treatment, most patients feel better within a week.
✅Hydrate. Ongoing diarrhea dehydrates you fast. Our IV Hydration Therapy replaces fluids directly so you protect your body from lasting damage.
You do not need an appointment, walk-ins welcome, and we have two 24/7 clinics.
