SoCal is in the middle of one of the hottest stretches of the year β€” and if you're drinking in the heat, the effects hit harder and faster than you might expect.

Alcohol and extreme heat are a dangerous combination. Heat accelerates dehydration, which intensifies impairment. A drink or two that would feel manageable on a cooler evening can leave you significantly more impaired in triple-digit temperatures β€” even if your BAC appears borderline.

Law enforcement doesn't take a summer break. DUI enforcement continues through holiday weekends and heat waves alike, and the consequences of a first-time DUI in California β€” an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, license suspension, mandatory DUI program, and IID requirements β€” don't change with the season.

If you're heading out this weekend, plan ahead. If you've already been charged with a DUI and have court or DMV requirements to meet, Jackson-Bibby is here to help you get enrolled and move forward.

Two major California DUI bills are at a critical moment right now β€” and if you've been convicted of a DUI in San Bernardino or Riverside County, you'll want to know what's coming.

SB 907 and AB 1830 both cleared committee hearings on June 30 and are moving forward in the legislature. Here's the short version:

πŸ”Ή AB 1830 would require IID installation for ALL DUI convictions β€” including first-time offenders who currently aren't required to have one. California currently receives an F grade from MADD for its interlock laws. This bill would change that.

πŸ”Ή SB 907 β€” known as Braun's Law β€” would expand Watson advisements to cover cases where DUI charges are reduced or dismissed. That means a wet reckless or hit and run plea wouldn't shield someone from second-degree murder charges if they later drive impaired and kill someone.

Neither bill is law yet. But the direction California is heading is clear β€” stricter requirements across the board.

If you're currently enrolled in a DUI program, your existing requirements haven't changed. Stay consistent, keep your attendance current, and contact us with any questions.

California's DUI reform bills SB 907 and AB 1830 are reaching critical committee votes. Here's what San Bernardino and Riverside County residents need to know right now.

Most people arrested for DUI focus entirely on their court date β€” and miss a critical DMV deadline that's already running.

In California, you have exactly 10 days from the date of your DUI arrest to request an administrative hearing with the DMV. Miss that window and your driver's license is automatically suspended β€” regardless of what happens in criminal court. The two processes are completely separate, and the DMV doesn't wait for the courts.

If you've recently been arrested for DUI in San Bernardino or Riverside County, that clock is already ticking. Talk to your attorney about the DMV hearing, and get your court-ordered program enrollment started at the same time β€” courts want to see you're taking steps forward.

Jackson-Bibby has been helping Inland Empire residents navigate DUI requirements since 1981. We're here when you're ready.

Life happens β€” work runs late, transportation falls through, a family emergency comes up. But if you've been court-ordered to complete a DUI program, a missed session is never just a missed session.

Your attendance is tracked and reported directly to the court and DMV. Too many absences can trigger a probation violation, extend your program timeline, or in serious cases, result in termination from the program β€” which means starting over.

The good news: one missed class is usually manageable if you act fast. We just published a guide covering exactly what to do, what the consequences are, and how virtual classes can help prevent the problem in the first place.

California's IID laws have expanded β€” and if you've been convicted of a DUI in San Bernardino or Riverside County, there's a good chance an ignition interlock device is part of your requirements.

An IID is a breathalyzer installed in your vehicle that prevents the engine from starting if it detects alcohol. All activity is recorded and reported directly to the DMV and courts. The requirement applies statewide now β€” not just in certain counties.

How long you're required to have one depends on your case: 6 months for many first-time offenders, 1 year for a second conviction, and longer from there. And importantly β€” your IID requirement and your DUI education program are two separate obligations. You have to complete both.

We just published a full guide covering installation, costs, restricted license eligibility, and what violations look like.

One of the most common questions after a DUI arrest: how long is this going to take?

The answer depends on which program the court or DMV orders β€” and they're not all the same. California has three main DUI program types: the AB541 (3 months), the AB762 (6 months), and the SB38 (18 months). Your offense history, BAC level, and sentencing terms all play a role in which one applies to you.

We just published a guide breaking down each program, what triggers each one, and why enrolling early makes a real difference.
