IRL Childbirth Education Classes coming Jan 2027 by yours truly.

If you can’t tell, I’m so excited. This has been something I’ve wanted to get off the ground for yearssssss now!

This class series is meant for everyone! It will be interactive and not boring (I hope, haha).

This will cover natural spontaneous labor, unmedicated birth, induction, interventions, and most of all, how to have agency in YOUR birth! We will plan and prepare for your birth, while also understanding that we have the element of the unknown…. How do we navigate birth as it unfolds in real time and pivot when needed.

Can’t wait. Stay tuned. Insurance coverage available for those eligible.

I’m just saying if you’re going to push inductions and scare people about *not* inducing, then maybe also inform people of the risk of an induction that isn’t actually medically necessary (even tho it may seem that way)….

Such as, a greater risk for:
Uterine tachysyatole (excessive uterine contractions)
Fetal heart rate abnormalities
A longer and potentially more intense labor experience
Greater exposure to medical interventions
A cesarean birth
Infection

Hiiiii! After attending well over 200 births and being in birth work for 13 years, it’s time to talk about all things birth…. Let’s do this! 🔥 🙌🏽

Hospital bathroom selfie 🤳 But for real, sometimes as a doula (birth worker), the best thing we can do is sit on our hands. Breathe with mom. And stop making it about always “doing” something.

Sometimes, we don’t need to do anything except let mom labor and witness birth.

Sometimes just our presence is the game changer. If I am not panicked and I am sitting here relaxed and present, validating this is normal, that’s enough.

Sometimes trying to do “all the things” interferes with her intuition when in fact, everything she’s doing is perfect.

Sometimes just being in the room to help advocate for allowing for her body and baby to work together is everything.

Sometimes there are looooong silences where I am huddled down in a squat so I don’t have the body language of standing over here, and I hand her a sip of water in between each interaction.

Sometimes all that’s needed is protecting her environment with dim lights, comfort, and not feeling observed and on a timeline

Sometimes, as a person who is a busy body, I have to remind myself (and birthing person) to breathe and trust the process…. There’s nothing to do.

We usually just take things one step at a time and done intervene unless needed….. and that’s ok. That’s ideal. That’s preferred.

Pregnancy loss ⚠️

Being a doula isn’t all about attending amazing births and living on an oxytocin high. In this work there is also loss, grief, trauma, medical emergencies, infertility, declined mental health and more.

And through all of that, it’s still an honor to join women/families as they walk this path. I get to sit with them, listen, love, support, and bear witness to their story. Nobody needs to experience this alone.

Did you know doulas can provide support for you no matter your situation? I’m here. Reach out. My hope is to make sure you aren’t alone, you can feel all the feels with support by your side. Anger, grief, jealousy… these situations bring up a lot, and that’s ok. None of it is “too much” for me.

This is a picture of a bear one of my clients had made at build-a-bear to honor the baby they lost to give them something to physically hold when the pain is too much to bear. The fabric is from her birthing gown she wore with every one of her kids’ birth that her brother who passed away bought her. Under the fabric is the cap to my pregnancy test.

I thought this was a beautiful idea and wanted to share. To everyone who has experience infertility, trauma and loss, we see you. You are not alone.

Coming soon — Birth by appointment only 🤪
Inductions are on the RISE!! The last data I know of, 1 in 3 are induced and I am convinced it’s more now.

My best advice I can give to any expecting parent is PLEASE don’t go in for the induction unless it’s TRUE medical necessity. Especially as a first time mom!

It’s just how things go these days —- once you hit 36 weeks they start planting seeds that baby “looks big” or they want to see if fluid looks low (which ebbs and flows especially at the end of pregnancy), or they “don’t want you to go past 40 weeks” (I can’t with this one!!), or you have gestational diabetes (even though it’s controlled by diet) and all these reasons that are NOT backed by data.

What IS backed by data is that Pitocin is the number one cause of heart rate decelerations, inductions have a higher chance of ending in an emergency cesarean, and most inductions for first time moms can take dayyyys where you typically get an epidural (because Pitocin contractions are rough!) then they starve you and can no longer eat and turns out, food is important when you’re giving birth. It’s truly a recipe for a cascade of interventions. It’s freaking hard. It’s typically not like you walk in to get induced and get to meet your baby that day.

Give your body time.
Wait for your baby to be ready.
Trust your birth.
Trust your body.
Usually all we need is more time
Set your body, your baby and your birth up for success
You can say no thank you! It’s your birth!

Witnessing the journey from maiden to mother is truly beautiful. When a new life arrives, a mother and family are born. I'm humbled to be part of this significant transition, offering education, support, and presence in hopes of making a difference.

Michaela, your bond with your baby girl is breathtaking, and seeing you as a mom is beyond special. Trust your strength and the power of your love and intuition.
