Good morning friends! ¡Hola!
Just a little reminder... It's better to wait about 30–60 min. before brushing your teeth after eating acidic foods or drinks.

It allows time for your saliva to help neutralize acids and protect your enamel. In the meantime, try drinking or rinsing with water! 💛

Researchers have ruled out inflammation as the cause of a common childhood tooth condition.

For years, many researchers believed that inflammation caused by childhood illnesses and high fevers might contribute to Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (MIH)—a common developmental condition that affects the enamel of permanent first molars and, in many cases, the front incisors.

However, a new study published in the Journal of Dental Research has challenged that idea. Using data from the long-running Barwon Infant Study, researchers followed children from pregnancy through 11 years of age and found that inflammation does not appear to be the cause of MIH.

MIH affects nearly 1 in 7 children. The affected enamel contains fewer minerals, making it softer and more porous than normal. As these permanent teeth erupt, they may develop white, cream, yellow, or brown patches, become extremely sensitive, wear down more easily, and have a higher risk of cavities or even early breakdown.

The exact cause of MIH is still unknown. Researchers now believe it is likely influenced by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, and future studies will investigate other biological pathways that may be involved.

Although MIH cannot currently be prevented, early diagnosis is essential. Regular dental check-ups allow affected teeth to be identified early so protective treatments can reduce sensitivity, prevent further enamel breakdown, and lower the risk of future dental complications.
