Remember when I told you about getting frankincense resin from thesmokewalkers??

Well, I finished the tester salve today! It’s beautiful, with only a few teensy flecks of resin residue left in. It smells incredible.

I will have the tester with me tomorrow at The Farmers Market at Brock's Gap!!
Come try it out and tell me what you think!
The next batch will begin tomorrow and be ready for Homestead Hollow in September!!

Tincturing passionflower

I always keep this tincture on hand. There are many reasons to have trouble sleeping or getting to sleep. Passionflower is useful in many of those situations and gentle enough for most people. It’s also uplifting, and I feel a softening on emotions when I use it.

This is will be available in a few weeks, and it will also be a key player in tincture I’m working to formulate with mimosa bark.

Passionflower
Passiflora incarnata is one of my favorite plants. I never knew her until I moved out of the city. Many people call it Maypop - either because the fruits make a popping sound when stepped on or squeezed OR because the flowers pop up in May OR because of the original Algonquin name for them. Who know!

Passiflora is a sedative nervine, bringing calm to the body. It can be quieting for those anxious thoughts. It has antidepressant qualities, along with antispasmodic and hypotensive qualities. It’s a good herb for making tea or tincture. I like to keep it dried and tinctured. Passiflora is said to be cooling and drying.
It is generally regarded as safe, but pregnant persons should consult a doctor before use.

I have never had SO many fruits on my plants before! Passionflower to me, has been a little hard to tame and contain. She’s wild. Which is so intriguing because she brings such a calm.

I always end up taking a few fruits a little earlier than is recommended because the gulf fritillary caterpillars come and start eating (that’s their only food source, so I don’t complain). But I finally got one that is light green and wrinkly! I think it would be better if it was even a little more yellow.

I have potted some this year and they’re doing well. So I hope to overwinter them and have them for sale in the spring.

Mountain Mage will not be at any markets this weekend!
I’ve been quiet on here because it’s summer and my kids are all home. We’ve been doing birthdays and the pool. We’ve been figuring out school year things (2 of my kids are changing schools out of choice) and visiting colleges (those 2 are also rising seniors).
So stick with me! I’ll be back with more content soon!

I did finally satisfy myself with this trellis project. One rose bush, one climbing rose, one clematis, and one passionflower. I think it will be lovely next year!

I hope you’re enjoying your summer- it’ll be over before we know it!
