Sarah is a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner who provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for women across the lifespan.

She has practiced in both general gynecology and gynecologic oncology since 2014, with a special focus on survivorship.

Here’s why that matters.

In May 2026, an international coalition of medical societies, researchers, and patient advocacy organizations officially changed the name Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) to Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

The change wasn’t cosmetic—it was made because the old name didn’t accurately describe the condition.

✓ Many people diagnosed do not have ovarian cysts.
✓ The condition affects far more than the ovaries.
✓ Hormonal, metabolic, reproductive, skin, and mental health can all be impacted.

The new name better reflects what the condition actually is: a complex, whole-body endocrine and metabolic disorder.
