A great abdominoplasty aka tummy tuck isn’t just about removing skin—it’s about preserving what makes an abdomen look natural.

One of the most overlooked details is the belly button.

During an abdominoplasty, my goal isn’t to create a “perfect” belly button—it’s to create one that doesn’t look like it was ever operated on.

I often use an inverted U design around the umbilicus to help conceal the scar and recreate the subtle upper hooding that contributes to a natural appearance.

Size. Shape. Position. Depth. These small details often determine whether a tummy tuck looks natural or simply looks “done.”

It’s often the small details that make the biggest difference.

One of the most common questions I get in revision rhinoplasty is: “Do you always have to use the patient’s own rib cartilage?”

The answer is no.

When additional structural support is needed—particularly in revision rhinoplasty—I frequently use fresh frozen cadaveric rib cartilage (MTF). It provides excellent strength while avoiding the discomfort, scar, and additional operative time associated with harvesting a patient’s own rib.

About 7 years ago, I had the privilege of contributing to some of the early research published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery evaluating the use of fresh frozen rib cartilage in revision rhinoplasty. Those early clinical experiences demonstrated encouraging outcomes with low complication rates, helping establish this as a reliable option in appropriately selected patients. Since then, additional studies have continued to support its safety and effectiveness.

No two noses—and no two operations—are the same. The key is choosing the right graft for the right patient to create a strong, natural, and long-lasting result.

Honored to be featured in Harper’s Bazaar discussing one of my favorite topics in aesthetic surgery: rejuvenating the aging neck.

At Avance, our mission extends beyond treating patients. As a national training center for Quantum RF technology, we are committed to advancing the field through research, education, and innovation. Alongside colleagues in Dallas and Los Angeles, we have helped contribute to some of the earliest and largest clinical publications on this technology.

Quantum RF has been an exciting addition to our treatment arsenal because it allows us to address both fat and skin laxity through a minimally invasive approach. For appropriately selected patients, it can improve jawline definition, neck contour, and tissue laxity while helping bridge the gap between traditional liposuction and more extensive surgical procedures.

Innovation only matters if it improves patient outcomes. Whether through research, teaching, or patient care, that remains the goal.
