🌿 Recovery Happens Beyond the Walls 🌿
What may look like a simple walk in nature is actually part of something much bigger.
Our amazing Jessi Hall, Head of Workforce Development, is dedicated to helping our women discover that recovery isn’t just about stopping the use of drugs and alcohol—it’s about learning how to live again.
In active addiction, many women lose connection with themselves, their families, their communities, and the world around them. Recovery is the process of rebuilding those connections one day, one choice, and one experience at a time.
Nature provides something powerful that recovery requires: stillness.
Many of the women who come through our doors have spent years running from painful emotions, trauma, fear, shame, grief, and uncertainty. The 12 Steps teach us that freedom comes not from avoiding those feelings, but from learning to walk through them with honesty, courage, faith, and support.
That is why experiences like this matter.
The Serenity Prayer reminds us of this truth:
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen.”
Recovery is not simply abstinence;
it’s learning how to enjoy one moment at a time.
It’s learning that we don’t have to control everything.
It’s discovering that we can find peace in the present.
It’s building a life so meaningful that we no longer need to escape it.
This is the work happening every day at The Empowerment Center.
