If your tooth should get knocked out, pick it up by the crown — never the root. Rinse it gently with water without scrubbing. Attempt to place it back in the socket and hold it there, or keep it moist in milk or between your cheek and gum. Get to an oral surgeon or emergency dentist within 30 minutes, timing is critical! The sooner the tooth is reimplanted, the higher the chance of saving it.
