Weathering the storm of life✨

Life is a series of struggles. Stress is unavoidable. Learning how to move forward despite the stress is a skill. It can change with each circumstance✨

The past three and a half years have been A LOT on many levels😫🤯😳

These are some of the things that help me remain grounded (or find my way there)✨

• Be in nature.

• Move your body.

• Opt for the outdoors.

• Find gratitude daily.

• Continue taking action toward goals & dreams.

• Never give up.

• Be with a friend.

• Be present.

• Keep moving forward.

• Pause for joy.

• Share your feelings.

• Be near water.

• Ask for help.

• Believe in yourself.

I'm incredibly grateful for skiing in the backcountry today✨ It's something I haven't done in quite awhile, so I chose to do it with a guide, and Alpenglow Expeditions is fabulous!! 🏔✨

✨Sept 50K Race update!!✨
I finished!! 🙌🏃🏽‍♀️🏔I met my goals: Start✅ Finish✅ Have Fun✅ Connect & share experience with ✅ Learn✅ Feel good afterward✅

✨I faced my fear September 24, 2022 and ran the 50K, the longest distance I've accomplished in 8 years😳😂 nearly 7,000ft of gain (and loss), and altitudes of 8,000-11,000ft🏔🏔

✨Last year at this time I could not imagine running 50K, but I started planning for "a 50K race." I was already training🏃🏽‍♀️⛰

✨Four years ago in October, I ran a trail 5K🙌That is where I was, where my body was, from a training perspective. Over these four years, I made small incremental changes. I trained🏋️‍♀️🏔🏃‍♀️🥾🚴‍♀️

✨The small changes result in BIG changes over time, like being prepared to run 10x the distance!!🙌 It's important to meet our body where it is. Start with today.

✨Stepping outside of our comfort zone and taking action is how we achieve the goals we set.

✨The best parts were enjoying and sharing the experience with trail friends🥰🤍being outside on a trail all day☀️🏔and working through the rough parts🥴🤢🙄😂

✨Oh! And I saw a baby bear🐻🥺🥰 No sight of mama bear, but the baby finally scampered up the hill away from the trail and race route - 📸7

Begin by lying on your back in a comfortable and supported position initially.

Place your left hand over your heart and your right hand on your belly.

Slowly inhale five seconds through your nose, allowing your abdomen to expand, letting go of any tension. Bring your breath low in your belly keeping the chest and shoulders 'quiet'.

Then slowly exhale five seconds through your mouth (like blowing out a candle slowly).

R e p e a t

Six repetitions is one minute; perform 6-10 repetitions throughout the day. Every hour is fabulous✨

Focusing attention on the sensory experience of the breath activates more of the parasympathetic (rest & digest) nervous system, calming the mind.

I'm taking time for some play, rejuvenation, and a little bit of fear🏔

Play is important for adults, too! It helps keep us young and energetic, and studies show it improves memory and brain function🧠

Who's in for that? I certainly am🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

I enjoyed a couple days of camping a few hours from my home in Reno🏔

I'm putting together all those small incremental changes I've made over the past several months (and years) to run the 50K. Yes, that's the fear part😳🏔😂

I'm excited in anticipation of the challenge of running a distance I have not done in several years, and with more elevation than I've accomplished in a day, and at altitudes of 8K-11K feet🏔

The best parts are that I get to enjoy and share the experience with friends🤍, and be outside on a trail all day🏔

How do you take time out to play?💃🏽🏃🏽‍♀️

Small incremental changes and consistency lead to BIG changes over time👊💥

My running strength is improving because I show up even on the days it's hard. I keep going even when it's hot, inconvenient and uncomfortable, and I struggle in my mind and in my heart🧠

AND I love running! BUT I know that some days are going to be hard, so I do it for the many other reasons.

I love spending time in nature and on the trails, getting to see the sunrise, the sunset, the flowers, the cloud formations, the smells, the sound of the wind and the leaves, connecting with running pals, and also the peace of being completely alone.

I enjoy completing something I knew would be a challenge and a struggle🙌

Knowing I'm helping my heart, my brain and my body to be stronger. I want this for you, too🧡

What changes do you want to see?

Start with where you are. Add one thing to your day that will bring you closer to your goal. It can be a one minute breathing routine to connect with your body🧠💫
