Whip Lash Injury occurs when rapid strain is placed on the body such as in auto accident, contact sport or falls. These forces cause a reaction and counter-reaction in spinal soft tissues creating widespread tearing and inflammation. Injury is felt in the more vulnerable areas of the spine such as the neck and lower back and can have long standing effects. Physical Therapy treatment focusses on acute protection and rest followed by gentle mobilization and retraining of the injured area(s). At PhysioSpine Reno, we specialize in spinal recovery from injury including Whip Lash Associated Disorder. Call us at 775-399-4094 for consultation and assistance in returning to full function after Whip Lash Injury.

Dizziness is common in both young and old individuals and is often due to inefficiency of the nervous system to perceive normal movement. There are many different causes and types of dizziness which negatively effect balance and postural stability. Problems with the Vestibular, Cervical, Ocular or Somatosensory systems can cause dizziness. Individuals suffering from conditions such as Vertigo or Concussion often experience dizziness and therefore poor performance. Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy can assist in correcting abnormal neural signals responsible for dizziness through habituation exercises. Call PhysioSpine Reno at 775-399-4094 with questions about dizziness and PT.

Scoliosis, in young and older people, results in alteration of normal spinal posture and biomechanics leading to back pain, trunk weakness and functional disabilities. Non-surgical care is available in the form of manual therapy and prescriptive exercise (Schroth Method Exercise for Scoliosis) which focus on restoring spinal alignment and function. This is accomplished by targeting the components of rotation, lateral bending and elongation through active and passive instruction for localized muscle control of the curvatures. PhysioSpine Reno specializes in conservative care of spinal conditions including adolescent and adult Scoliosis. Call us at 775-399-4094 to learn more.

Balance is almost entirely a nervous system function. Balance can be negatively effected by injury to the system (Concussion) or disease of the system (Parkinson's) or simply by decline of the system as we age. Incidence of falls goes up in individuals greater than 65 years as balance performance goes down. Physical Therapy can assist in enhancing balance performance by targeting the 3 components of balance during treatment: proprioception, vestibular function and perceptual/ocular function. Call PhysioSpine Reno at 775-399-4094 to learn more about how PT can help with balance problems.

Muscular weakness in the upper cervical spine is common in individuals who suffer from neck pain, headache and dizziness as a result of Whip-Lash Associated trauma or Concussion. The front of the neck tends to be weaker than the back creating a cranio-cervical imbalance leading to control problems and overstimulation of nerves. We utilize manual therapy and proprioceptive laser training to help strengthen the upper cervical stabilizing muscles and restore full function of the neck. Call PhysioSpine Reno at 775-399-4094 to learn how we can help you with head/neck problems.
