Nervous system is guarding that tightness and/or trigger points. Applying intense pressure to the areas of discomfort will give temporary relief and very likely exacerbate the underlying issue.
A more effective approach is to ease into deeper work by first addressing the nervous system. This can be achieved with broad surface contact, slow sustained pressure, and soothing compressions or rocking techniques that signal safety and reduce protective responses.
Once we facilitate a shift in sensitivity, we can add deeper pressure, joint mobilization, and assisted stretching, all while honoring the body’s limits. With consistency over time, we can help establish a new normal (less overactive guarding)
